Garden Cottage: Gorgeous end result, but a bit of a finicky build

Now that it's done, I really like how this looks. It's very cozy and pretty. The garden is detailed and intricate, but not overly difficult to put together like some big floral builds. The lighting effects add to the scene without overwhelming it. Some highlights:

  • The greenhouse is really cool-looking. The transparent pieces provide some interesting lighting effects. I like the transparent roof.
  • Details and arrangements. The garden and roof look very busy, but it's mostly modular and easy to build.
  • Overall aesthetics. It's a beautiful set. It succeeds at what it is trying to do.

Some things I would change:

  • Wire pinching. It happens throughout the set, but it's especially bad on the ground level. The whole set could have been raised by just 1 plate and avoided all pinching. Not sure why that wasn't done. But it is a bit annoying.
  • Instructions and order of operations. This is something Lumibricks usually excels at, but they aren't as good in this set. There is room for improvement in some of the order of operations. Some of this may have been fixed in the digital instructions (example, there is a fern build inside the cabin that does not work as built in the paper instructions, but was fixed in the digital instructions).

Overall, I was slightly frustrated with this build when I was in the middle of it. But by the time it was finished I started to really enjoy it. And now that it's done, it's beautiful.

If your main use case is display, I recommend this set. If you mainly enjoy the build experience, this is still OK, but there are better Lumibricks sets (for instance, Barbershop is an amazing build).

Barbershop Review: Lumibricks' best set ever? Amazing in every way

This set is absolutely phenomenal. If you like Lumibricks even a little bit, you need this set. The build is perfectly designed and executed, and it looks great.

The lighting is well-integrated and the wire routing is the best yet. The way the walls are designed with panels makes it very easy to route wires. The main marquee sign is great, and the barbershop pole is a cool effect.

The interior details are great. The set is spacious and has sufficient room for scenes inside. The exterior design looks great also.

I love the way the set opens. The design is perfect and the mechanisms work flawlessly. The build is sturdy and solid, and I never worried about structural weakness at any point. The bags are reasonably sized and the instructions are great as always.

This is easily a 10/10 set. I honestly don't think there is anything to improve. It's that good. I've built most of the Lumibricks catalog, and I think this one is the winner. Bravo to the designers and Lumibricks for continuing to put out amazing products. This one is a must-buy.

Saw this one on sale recently and decided to go for it. You can definitely tell it's one of the older sets. Wire management is done without many specialized channel bricks, including a few clever routings (like using a headlight brick's gap to run a wire- I actually like that sort of thing).

However, there are some pretty egregious pinched wires, and all of the wires connect in a spaghetti fashion to the same panel. No touch-connection parts to send power between floors. It winds up working fine, but certainly less sophisticated than newer sets.

Additionally, there isn't any way to view the top floor without removing the roof (which can be a bit touchy, but it's not too fragile).

Lastly, STICKERS! I have never built a Lumibricks set with stickers before. This has them. Not great. Weirdly, it does include a number of printed pieces (mostly the wood slats and end caps), but stickers are used for all the other decor.

I do really like some of the things here. The lighted tree is pretty cool. The log cabin build is different, and it works. I also always enjoy the base build and platforms on the cabin series.

Overall, I think the other cabins in this series are similar enough in looks, and are much superior builds. It is interesting as a Lumibricks fan to see how far they've come. This is a good build and worth the money, but they have raised the bar so high that their older efforts don't hold up as well.

Really enjoyed the Moon Bar. Very chill and relaxing build and the atmosphere of the bar is fantastic. I even like the brick-built sign, which I've heard some people don't like. I think it's clever and cool looking. The bright colors are great, and they also make it easier to build.

Not much to complain about with this set. It fits in nicely with the retro series. The lighthouse is in my backlog and I'm looking forward to seeing how it fits in also.
