It’s not bad

Timex Waterbury Metropolitan Chronograph: I purchased this at less than half off the retail price which I think reflects the value of this piece much better than the $229 listed by Timex. It’s beautiful in person with excellent finishing. It could wear a little more comfortable but overall fine. The factory strap feels decent and I actually think I may leave it on for a while. For less than $100 it’s a good deal.

New to collecting

I’ve recently started collecting after wanting to ditch the smart watch. I owned several of these pieces during periods of my life that required a dependable time piece. I bought the Citizen Eco Drive after my son was born 21 years ago and it still keeps perfect time. I enlisted and bought the G-Shock GA-110 after basic training and we both survived some close calls. Many years later I wore a Timex Expedition during police academy since smart watches were not allowed.

I realized that I had already been collecting I just hadn’t realized the connection I had with horology. I’ve now started to appreciate the history and craftsmanship that are involved and although I can’t afford a Daytona, a Royal Oak, or a Seamaster, I think affordable watches with value that exceed their price and well made homage pieces are a great way to enjoy this interest.

I will rock an F91-W with as much pride as a Patek Philippe (should I ever own one). Don’t be a watch snob. We all have our own reasons and this thing gives us joy.

TLDR; Don’t be a joy thief. Be excellent to each other.
