"Warm up your account before posting" is a myth we need to stop spreading

I keep seeing this every time I hear advice for new YouTubers.

"You have to use an aged account and warm it up before posting to avoid shadowbans, yadada yada"...no you don't. YouTube themselves have never confirmed this was necessary step to start a channel, and they likely would if this was an essential feature.

I opened a brand new channel 13 days ago, and posted minutes after its creation. My first short had 30k views, and I've since cumulated 100 subscribers and made 300 thousand views across all my videos in this period.

It's anecdotal, but it does reinforce the idea that this "warm up" advice is just nonsense.

And my theory is that it's pushed by scammers who want to sell "warmed up" accounts to oblivous people that think this will make a difference. It won't.

If you want to start a youtube channel, stop overthinking; go on youtube, create it, and start posting!

My first youtube short made 30k views in 48 hours, but none of my other uploads could recreate that success

So I started a new YouTube channel around 5 days ago, and I was really surprised to see my first video would go to have 30k views (I had never made this many views so fast previously), and it’s making me question whether this was just a fluke.

The video has 72.2 % retention, 52 comments, 836 likes. On paper it looks pretty good, but then, all my other videos, some of which explicitly recreate the same style, content and format of this first video, are barely able to hit the 1000 views mark, and have widely different stats.

As someone who’s had multiple channels previously, I was never able to have an instant hit like this, despite the effort I put in analyzing what short has the potential of being viral. So this situation, although it’s meant to be a pretty positive thing, leaves me a bit dumbfounded.

It reinforces the common saying they use in the film industry, but applies to the internet too : "Nobody knows anything. Not one person in the entire motion picture field knows for a certainty what's going to work. Every time out it's a guess and, if you're lucky, an educated one."

Often on this sub, I feel like people are trying to rationalize the irrational: the youtube algo is very random, and will sometimes push content out for unexplainable reasons. Consistency is better than optimizing for the tiniest of details, which may or may not have an impact on your video’s performance.

Do you agree or not ?

[Hiring] Video editor for UFC/MMA shorts | $200/month

Need a video editor for UFC/MMA shorts, anywhere between 20 – 50 seconds long.

No fancy editing, just quick and dynamic. For reference, this is the style we’re aiming for : https://www.youtube.com/@KombatIQ/shorts

It’s essential that you yourself are an MMA fan, and that you are knowledgeable enough on the topic.

No need to be very experienced with video editing, I’m just looking for someone who’s adaptable, reactive, efficient, and reliable in the long-term. I’m hoping that this can be a recurrent partnership.

The expectation is that every short is completed in an hour’s time. The workload should be around 7 hours a week.

I will pay up to $200/month to start off with. You’ll need to setup a Fiverr account so we can process payment.

I may ask you to work on a sample, but I will pay you $10 upon successful completion.

If interested, please leave a comment, AND send me a DM message sharing :

- Your availability (I’m looking for someone who can get started ASAP)

- Your portfolio & level of experience

- What editing software you use

- Any questions you might want to ask me

Start your message with « Little ding-dong of a thing he is yeah » (any message that doesn’t have this opening sentence will be ignored)

Games and drinks this evening?

Hey everyone, a couple of friends and I are heading to a board game café tonight, and we'd love to invite anyone interested!

Right now we're three (2M, 1F), in our mid-twenties. We'll be meeting around 7pm, in the 93400. We'll be having some drinks playing a bunch of casual games. Dms are a bit buggy, so drop a comment if you're down to join us :)

Hey there !

A year ago I started organizing regular gatherings and posting them online, and it was great experience. I made friends, learned new skills, met tons of great people in the process, and it’s making me want to reiterate the experience on a larger scale.

Recently I’ve had the crazy idea for a summer project ; to host quizzes or something like a game show event (think of what YouTube channels like Squeezie or Jubilee are making), in a bar/venue, and open for anyone to join.

I turn to this subreddit to see if anyone would be keen in joining me on this project 😄 I’m looking for someone who’s creative, driven and interested in hosting events and connecting people
