Help: I can't reduce the pump speed

I have a PC with a MSI / MPG B550 mother board, and I tried everything (BIOS config, MSI center) to reduce my pump speed a bit, and it won't bulge from 3200RPM.

For context I'm kind of a noob with hardware, it's mostly a ~3+ year old prebuild with some parts swapped. I didn't even know I had water cooling at first.

A few weeks ago it started making some very unpleasant rattling noises, so I though some fan had a problem and I tried all the classics: BIOS config, fancontrol.exe, etc to figure out which fan it was, and that's where I discovered I had water cooling, and that it was the pump making some rattling noises.

No matter what I did I couldn't adjust its speed, so I took it to the shop and they told me it was dying and replaced it by what they had on hand: ML-PROII120 from Mars Gaming.

Thankfully the rattling noise is gone, but I still find it surprisingly noisy and it's still stuck at 3200RPM, so I'd like to reduce it's speed a bit hoping it would be more silent, at least when the PC is largely idle, and also to perhaps give it a break so it lasts longer than the previous one.

But again, I can't figure out why, it won't ever adjust.

In the BIOS it's configured as PWM controlled, and set to be adjusted based on CPU temp, but no matter what limits I set it never change its speed. If I set it to the only other mode (DC?) it just stops and the CPU temp rises quite quickly.

I tried upgrading the motherboard firmware since it was from 2020, but that didn't help.

I tried using MSI Center's fan control thing, but there again, no luck. If I try to set the speed manually from MSI Center it changes nothing and when exiting it warns me the changes weren't applied, and the save button does nothing.

I have no idea where to go from there:

  • Is it some incompatibility with my motherboard that isn't capable of adjusting the pump speed?
  • Or is it the two pumps I had so far that are to blame? Are they just not controllable?
