Roadtrip Decision | Belize/Guatemala vs Yucatán for 2 weeks in November
My wife and I are planning a roadtrip for November this year. We built two alternatives, but can’t decide between them. We’ve never been in Central America, so any general advice would be very welcome. We plan to go around via rental car in Mexico and a mixture of self drive and shuttles
Option I: Belize + Guatemala
- Fly into Belize, then spend a couple days at the beach on Ambergris Caye (3 nights)
- Tikal for the Maya ruins and rainforest (3 nights)
- Long drive to Cobán (1 night, basically just an overnight stay)
- Lake Atitlán (3 nights)
- Xela (2 nights)
- Antigua (3 nights)
- Fly out of Guatemala City
Option II: Yucatán Peninsula
- Fly into Cancún (1 night)
- Holbox for the beach (2 nights)
- Río Lagartos for a swamp tour (1 night)
- Valladolid + Chichén Itzá (1 night)
- Mérida (3 nights)
- Campeche (1 night)
- Calakmul (2 nights)
- Bacalar (3 nights)
- Puerto Morelos (1 night)
- Fly out of Cancún
Which would you pick, and is there anything you'd change?
