UPDATE - Email, Office 365, and Banner / Registration

This was sent out a few minutes ago:

Dear Students,

Indian River State College is currently experiencing a Microsoft student synchronization issue. Our Information Technology team is actively working with Microsoft support to resolve the matter as quickly as possible.

At this time, the majority of students have access to Banner, and all active students have access to Canvas. However, some Microsoft-related services and third-party applications may be temporarily unavailable until the issue is fully resolved.

The current issues may include:
- Inability to access student email accounts
- Inability to access Office 365 (including OneDrive and Office Suite)
- Inability to reset passwords for accounts that require authentication via student email (including McGraw-Hill and Cengage)
- Inability to access certain third-party applications, such as Adobe and other integrated services

Students who CAN access Banner but have trouble registering for classes should contact the Help Desk for assistance.

We understand the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience while we work toward a resolution. Additional updates will be communicated as they become available.

Thank you,
Indian River State College

Editing to add: the help desk email is studenthelpdesk@irsc.edu

Please include “Banner SAML Error” in the subject line of the email, and please include your name, date of birth, student ID number, and rivermail address in the body of the email. This will greatly speed up our ability to help.

Thanks Badge - Tomato Can?

I'm writing speeches for our Adult Recognition ceremony - and our SU has a story and a tradition that involves presenting the Thanks Badge in a tomato can.

It's a story that has been passed down through oral tradition within our service unit, about JGL being asked to provide a container to present a Thanks - she picked up an empty can of tomatoes and proceeded to present the badge in that manner, with the admonition that the badge needs no fancy container it should stand for itself.

I have not been able to verify that story or find a reference to it online. Does anyone else know this story?

Their legacy was made on the road. Let’s honor it with a road named for the Highwaymen.

Sign the Petition and please share!

Join the call to preserve the Florida Highwaymen legacy with a road that reflects the path they forged.

The Florida Highwaymen are one of the most important cultural legacies ever to come out of the Treasure Coast. They painted our skies, our rivers, our storms, our royal poincianas — and they did it during a time when Black artists were shut out of galleries and opportunity. They challenged the status quo, creating vibrant landscapes that captured the natural beauty of Florida and became iconic representations of our state’s lush environment.

Many sold their paintings along roadsides, in parking lots, from car trunks, and door‑to‑door, building a legacy that has since gained national recognition. Despite the racial discrimination they faced, they persevered, and their work now holds a significant place in American art history. They have been called “The Last Great American Art Movement of the 20th Century.”

Their story began right here in Fort Pierce. Yet today, no city in Florida has a road named after them.

It’s time to change that.

Naming a road in Fort Pierce and the Treasure Coast after the Highwaymen would not only honor their artistic contribution but also celebrate their courage and resilience in the face of adversity. It would stand as a powerful reminder of how art can be a vehicle for change, bridging communities and generations together.

This is an opportunity to acknowledge the role the Florida Highwaymen have played in preserving the legacy of our beautiful state. Their vision has painted Florida’s narrative in broad, sweeping strokes of color, capturing not only landscapes but the essence of our history.

We are grateful that we can already honor these Florida Artists Hall of Fame painters through several Highwaymen cultural assets that keep their story alive in our community:

Florida Highwaymen Museum
The Highwaymen Heritage Trail
Highwaymen Heritage Trail Festival
Highwaymen Art Gallery

Let’s add to these.

A roadway designation would stand alongside these cultural assets as a permanent, public acknowledgment of the Highwaymen’s legacy. Please join me in calling for this enduring tribute to the Florida Highwaymen and their tremendous contributions to our cultural tapestry. Sign this petition to make this vision a reality. Together, we can ensure that the legacy of the Florida Highwaymen continues to inspire and resonate throughout our communities.
