Hiking boots vs hiking shoes for the Dolomites?
I’m heading to the Dolomites for a week beginning of September and travelling with only my 35L backpack as carry-on, so I’m really limited on space.
I’m trying to decide what footwear to wear on the flight and what to pack:
- Berghaus hiking boots – hiking boots with ankle support
- Salomon XT-6 – lighter hiking shoes
- Crocs – planning to pack these for evenings/hostel
For those who have actually hiked in the Dolomites, would you recommend proper hiking boots or hiking shoes? I’ll be doing a mixture of shorter hikes and some longer mountain trails, but nothing particularly technical.
I’m leaning towards the XT-6 because they’re lighter and easier to travel with, but I don’t want to sacrifice grip/support just to save a bit of space.
What would you take if you could only bring one proper hiking shoe/boot? Thanks!
