From last one year working on my mother tongue Kashmiri. I founded a non profit and next month we would release 20 hours of transcribed audio data for Kashmiri. Our goal in 1200 hours by the end of this year we predict around 100 hours will be done (FOR ASR and TTS).
I also made a keyboard and added it on FUTO for a custom roman script i made for my language which is written in persian-arabic. IOS version awaiting apple review.
Could have done more but a lot of shutdowns in Kashmir tons of internet breaks especially when i was like 14.
Went through curfew for months after 5 aug in Kashmir.
SAT i predict 1500. I do 800 in maths easily will try 700 atleast in english.

My last post was regarding an open source AI dataset for Kashmiri we are working on.
However, from the comments, I have realized that people here are still living in 2015 with no idea of what already has been developed.
For those who are concerned about Kashmiri no longer being a language which cannot be translated, please open instagram and see how good the Meta Kashmiri translation is.
Kashmiri translation is available and, believe it or not, it is very good.
Here for those who think making a dataset for Kashmiri speech synthesizer ( A technology which is not associated with translations at all), please inform yourselves out of the delusions you are living in my following these steps:
Upload a post in Kashmiri on instagram and enable translations:
Check the translation Meta creates -- the languages it translate into will carry your own voice.
You can be anti-AI all you want, however the idea Kashmiri being safe from surveillance or mass data analysis is outdated. Kashmiri translation has existed for some time now and it is quite good.
Here is another reality check you guys ought to get: Josh Talks has around 30K thousand hours of ASR data. THIRTY THOUSAND. All accomplished by them paying people a hundred rupees or so for 1 hour of voice data.
I too wish our language was gate kept, however that is just misunderstanding of what currently is possible.
Hey there fellow Kashmiris; I am Farhan Syedain, Director of Yimberzol Foundation.
We are building a 1200 hour transcribed audio dataset for Kashmiri to bridge the gap Kashmiri faces as a low resource language.
This project started as an idea; and after discussion with various people and institutions, I released that this idea was valuable and could raise investments easily -- for I was offered them, provided that I present a monetization plan. However, I have decided and moved forward with the vision that this project must, for good or for bad, continue as a non-profit and open source project. This, however, has came with hardships but, nonetheless, we continue and will continue to work on this in the future as well.
For this project to succeed as a non-profit, We require people who can help us by volunteering and giving us 1 hour of their precious time. We, as a non-profit organization, cannot provide financial returns for the work, however we can provide certificate of participation for those who are looking for it.
I hope we can all come together and contribute to this open-source dataset; yakjah hěkoo es' yi kháb porè kerith.
If you could also refer us to those who can help us through monetary and or voluntary means, we would really appreciate that.
Lesiv,
Syedain
