Had the vehicle inspected at the dealer to try and confirm the piston ring warranty coverage and I found out it was previously done in 2022 (58K miles - currently at 98K). The Honda dealer was griping that our regular mechanic cleared the codes (apparently, I should just not repair a critical engine issue) but said yeah if the fouled plugs are from CYL1-3 that the piston ring needs to be replaced and quoted me like $7400 - (hell no).

I pushed back saying why would I pay $7000 for this to just fail in another 40K miles. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to order the VCMTUNER before they sold out so it's at least a month before I can get my hands on one.

• I don't know the rate of oil leak - if we drive the car for a month or two are the spark plugs going to be shot in another few months?
• If I don't do the piston rings and install the VCM2, are we risking long term engine damage?
• Just say screw it and sell it? (Probably around $10K trade in value)

Sorry for the additional post but I'm really not an expert in this area.

Finally got bit by this (flashing check engine light last night and our regular mechanic did diagnostic and confirmed the misfire and oil-fouled spark plugs. Spent the last 30 minutes reading old threads here and Odyssey club VCM thread.

Car is under 150K miles (98K) but was originally delivered in 2015 (don't think we bought it until 2017) so I think we'll miss the window for the free repair since we basically didn't drive it enough to break it before it expired.

I called the dealer before reading everything else. Is it still worth bringing it to see if it'll qualify? For the VCM, is that shady if I ask my mechanic about installing it?

I don't know if this is everywhere around here but right now I can't go outside at any time of day without mosquitoes latching onto me in seconds.

I just walked my dog at 8 AM and I killed about 10 mosquitoes on my body or trying to bite me through my shirt. Last night I took my dog out to pee for about 60 seconds and killed 3.
