Should I just have the gray bottom sole peel off instead of re-gluing them because they'll fall off anyway? OR re-glue them for stabilizing purposes?

Hello New Balance community. After almost three years, the “gray” bottom sole has started to peel off. I'm a bit disappointed since I only wear my 990v6 an average of 1-2x per week (rotating them with my other sneakers) as I only discovered this issue last week and that this issue had incurred on others as soon as 4 months of wear. In addition, earlier 990 versions didn't have problems on their bottom soles even 5 years of extensive use. Been asking thru the comments with the same issue and they couldn't answer my only question for this (The title): Should I just have the gray bottom sole peel off instead of re-gluing them because they'll fall off anyway? OR re-glue them for stabilizing purposes?

As you can see, my 990v6's are still in tip-top shape as I don't wear it that much except for the bottom soles. I'm still going to wear it until it's unwearable but just wanted to ask if the falling off of that section will cause destabilizing/imbalances whether I walk or stand?

The Video version on the first comment of this post. Hoping to get your kind and warmest replies. Thank you.

In your opinion, which: Vinfast MPV7 | Jaecoo J5 BEV | BYD Atto 2 BEV | GAC Aion UT

A. Car Requirements Profile:

  • We're intending to buy a BEV within the next two weeks.
  • Our average distance traveled is 120-150kms. per week (600kms/mo.)
  • We'll only use it for drop-offs, pick-ups, office commutes, city driving, occasional malling/groceries, occasional long distances (if we end up with a higher kwh capacity car, the farthest we'll likely travel to is Baguio. But if BEV w/lower kwh, we'll just use our Innova).
  • We're currently a family of 3 with one 6-year old kid plus one nanny which brings a total of 4 in a car on weekends. I'll be using the EV with an average of 1 pax for five/six days per week and to the extent, maybe 3-4 pax on one/two days per week.
  • If possible, my wife prefers a bigger car. To me, that's what our other car, an Innova, is for if we end up with something smaller (e.g., AION UT or ATTO 2 BEV).
  • Audio is very important to me as a daily music listener during commutes. A decent sound will do. So it will be included under my sub-points. I'll use either an SD/MicroSD USB Card reader OR an iPod with a bluetooth TRANSMITTER on it. I prefer to play my own music through these means. So, kindly withdraw your criticisms as to why I don't use Spotify nor my smartphone to broadcast music as I don't want to drain my smartphones' batteries while commuting on a BEV.

B. Candidates

• I know that these 4 candidates don't belong to the same category (1 MPV, 2 SUVs, 1 Hatchback). But all of these are within our budget.

1. Vinfast MPV7 (Php1.239M)

  • My wife prefers a bigger car so I included this here.
  • Haven't test driven this yet but I can probably try this coming Mon, Aug. 17.
  • Have seen its interior and I'm good with the cabin size.
  • Will opt for batt subscription.
  • Higher ground clearance.
  • Audio sound is decent. Maybe at par with the Atto 2 BEV
  • Wall Charger supply could be an issue.
  • Can reach Baguio without charging midway.
  • Mixed Aftersales performances depending on dealerships.

2. Jaecoo J5 BEV (Php1.399M — without discounts applied yet by different dealerships)

  • Again bigger.
  • Test driven this and its decent enough. Not as good as the Atto 2 BEV and the AION UT.
  • Suspension's feel a bit floaty but I don't mind.
  • Cabin size is good enough.
  • Higher ground clearance
  • Audio sound is bad. Muddy.
  • Can play both thru my USB drive AND my iPod w/Bluetooth transmitter.
  • Wall Charger available upon purchase.
  • Can reach Baguio without charging midway.
  • Don't like the Moonroof but will just try to manage hoping it won't cause issues overtime (leaks, cracking)
  • Appropriately priced.
  • Local Aftersales still yet to be proven but maybe any owner who sees this post can contribute their experience.

3. BYD Atto 2 BEV (Php1.288M)

  • Size is alright
  • Test driven it and it's better than the Jaecoo J5 BEV
  • Suspension's feels a bit hard here.
  • Cabin Size is good enough (approximately the same with the Jaecoo J5 BEV)
  • Low ground clearance.
  • Audio sound is bad. Thin-like. Lacks clarity BUT better than the J5 BEV. Can play both thru my USB drive AND my iPod w/Bluetooth transmitter.
  • Wall Charger available upon purchase.
  • Baguio may require to charge midway just to be sure.
  • Quite disappointing since it doesn't have more safety ADAS features. At least there are sensors that alarms at both front and rear bumpers (So it makes a sound whenever there are vehicles and people within these sensors' proximity).
  • Has the most physical buttons which is quite advantageous for me personally.
  • Has an app which is good.
  • Overpriced with regards to price-to-features ratio.
  • Dealership with close family ties which “COULD” be favorable for aftersales concerns. And yes, there's no assurance especially if parts aren't available that soon.

4. GAC AION UT (Php998K)

  • Smaller since it's a Hatchback but my wife's still open on it.
  • Test driven and it's as good or maybe even better than the Atto 2 BEV.
  • Suspension's feel a bit floaty but I don't mind.
  • The best Cabin size of the 3 I had test driven.
  • Low ground clearance but may compensate by changing its stock 16" tires to 18".
  • The Best Audio sound among my test-drivens. Not audiophile caliber but the clear winner. I could only play my music thru its USB reader though. iPod w/Bluetooth Transmitter could not successfully connect.
  • No Wall Charger supplied but can purchase one online.
  • If forced to use to go to Baguio (un-ideal due to low ground clearance), may require to charge midway. Likely, we'll just use our Innova in this case.
  • Lots of features like L2 ADAS including Blind Spot Monitoring.
  • Appropriately (and maybe even under-) priced with regards to its price-to-features ratio. And since this is the cheapest, we're thinking of using the Php250K - Php300K saved—opting for the AION UT instead of the candidates above—to invest on a Solar System.
  • Has limited physical buttons. I can manage.
  • Has an app which is good.
  • Local Aftersales still yet to be proven but maybe any owner who sees this post can contribute their experience.

***Hoping to get all your expertise on what could be the most appropriate for our setup. Thank you.
