Reading original Hobbit?

I'm interested in the one with Gnomes instead of Elves, and original Riddles in the Dark. As far as I know that means first edition, old books, nothing else? I understand that first edition is rare, stemming from being released around the beginning of ww2. Then there was 2nd edition, that had changed Riddles in the Dark chapter, but nothing else? After that came the 3rd edition, Revised Edition, that's now practically identical to all the modern editions. So my only option is hunting for the first edition books, possibly 2nd edition, also, if I'm willing to overlook Riddles in the Dark chapter?

I'd really appreciate it if someone could clear things for me. Especially differences between 2nd and first edition. I can't seam to find any clear info regarding this. For instance pages like: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English-language_editions_of_The_Hobbit, only mention changes to Riddles in the Dark chapter, when change from Gnomes to Elves happened is never indicated.

Pick one: Stock Up vs Riddle in the Dark?

Instant looks great, but I've already lost games thanks to Riddles in the Dark. 4 cards vs 5 is a thing, and then you draw three lands and one good card, and you will never get that one good card into your hand.

Something is off with servers today

I'm getting constant "waiting for server" disturbances. Gameplay is seriously hindered.

Some rule questions regarding this card. Specifically in relation to Jeskai Revelation.

How can I know what exactly counts as a target spell or ability for 2nd ability of Return the Favour?

I understand that 2nd option can be used as a counter to counterspell. I cast it when opponent is countering my spell, then change the target of counterspell with Return the Favour, and my first spell will resolve.

It should also resolve against spells like Inevitable Defeat that have a condition that this spell can't be countered, since you're not technically countering it, but only changing targets.

It won't be available for spells that don't mention target in their description. For example, I can't change the target of spells like Stock Up, I can only copy those. Nothing in Stock Up mentions target, so that's logical, but why can't I activate 2nd option as response to Jeskai Revelation? Only first option can be selected in response to it. I can copy it. I can't change permanent targets, and I can't change damage targets, and I can't "counter" it by like I can counter regular counterspells.

Example:

Opponent casts Jeskai Revelation. Targets my creature to be returned to my hand. Why can't I cast Return the Favour as a response to it, chose 2nd option and change target of Jeskai Revelation to my Return the Favour, like I can in response to counterspells?

Choreographed Sparks and Counterspells?

Example:

Burst Lighting + Choreographed Sparks + Opponent casts Counterspell = Both Burst Lightning and Sparks fizzle out.

Burst Lighting + Counterspell + Choreographed Sparks = ??? Can you cast Sparks after Counterspell, copy Burst Lightning, and would that copy resolve?
