Barbie’s Action-Figure-Fication is almost complete!
A great doll with nice features (although, I didn’t dye her hair) limited by Mattel‘s budget. Hopefully, removable hands is a trend moving forward for premium Made To Move dolls, like Barbie Basics. & BarbieStyle to compete in the greater doll market. I think an extra top & a set of hands to hold things would have been perfect. Being the first Barbie to have removable hands, a fully Made To Move body would have been absolute perfection.
And maybe change the pearl rimmed sunglasses to something normal looking…
Pros
• Removable hands are great for photography & posing.
• Doll can be customized easily with lots of looks as accessories (Pants can become shorts, hair can be dyed, etc.).
• Styling is highly versatile with pieces that allow for a variety of dynamic looks.
Cons
• The limited set of hands focus on style & posing, lacking a set of functional hands to grab items, like handbags.
• Pink metallic material feels a little cheap and the jacket lacks a closure.
• The bracelet doesn’t fit and keeps falling off.
• A hybrid of Articulated legs & Made To Move arms, which conflicts with the doll’s focus on posing and photography.
The Tim Gunn line is just phenomenal. All of the fashion pieces are incredibly cohesive, working together to create elevated styles as casual or as formal as you want them to be. Two of the separate tops and bottoms doubling as dresses was also a great part of the set. Lots of great neutrals paired with versatile patterns and modest pops of a color. An amazing collection!
Also, getting better at phone doll photography. I was in a bit of a rush before work with the final two (especially three). Lots to learn, but getting better. 😅
I don’t know what I’m doing, but I also don’t have to, to have fun.
I’m going to have an unnecessary amount of fun with this incredibly frivolous purchase.
I’ve wanted these for so long. Four of them came in the mail today and 3 more are on the way (1-4, 1.5-1, and 2-3). I just need Target and Resort to complete the collection. They work very well with the existing Barbie Basics dolls!
The quality is phenominal. I don’t deserve them and don’t even want to open them. I wish the dolls were cheaper. 😭
While many of the more basic or oversized pieces from the Neutral wave can fit Ken perfectly (shown above), having a set of basics made for Ken is definitely niche that needs filling.
I’d be 100% okay with one of those kits that have 3 rooted heads and an original Ken body with 2 outfits in this skin tone to have some basic clothing, shoes and accessories - for the Neutral wave, or whatever they coming up with next. However, I’d prefer a Deluxe Kit to take full advantage of the masculine styling possibilities with a full range of body types, clothing, accessories & rooted heads to choose from (I doubt Ken is getting wigs).
There’s a deluxe kit matching Kit 001 missing for Barbie, so I assume it will launch alongside that. Otherwise - why have the removable neck peg? Why launch a new slim body type?
