Did smoking affect the physical performance of soldiers during WWII?
During WWII, smoking was extremely widespread among soldiers, and cigarettes were included in military rations or distributed to troops.
Soldiers could smoke very heavily, and cigarettes at the time generally lacked the filters commonly found on modern cigarettes.
Has there ever been historical or medical research specifically examining the impact this level of smoking had on the physical performance of WWII soldiers?
