The Hyderabad Loophole: How JEE coaching migrants are killing the NIT Warangal Home State quota for actual locals

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to vent/talk about something that’s been seriously bothering me regarding NIT Warangal cutoffs. It honestly feels like local students from Telangana are getting completely screwed over by the current system.

As most of you know, NITs have a **50% Home State (HS) quota** meant to give local students a fair shot at their state's top college. But because Hyderabad is a massive mega-hub for JEE coaching, thousands of students from Andhra and other states move here for 11th and 12th to join corporate coaching institutes (Chaitanya, Narayana, etc.).

And here’s the absolute kicker: **JOSAA/JEE rules state that your "State of Eligibility" is based entirely on where you give your 12th boards.** It doesn't matter where you grew up, where your family lives, or where you went to school for 15 years.

Because of this rule, all these thousands of coaching students who move to Hyd for just two years automatically get **Telangana Home State status**.

When JoSAA counseling starts, they aren't competing in the Open/Other State quota—they are competing *directly* with actual locals for the NIT Warangal HS seats. It completely inflates the competition and pushes the cutoffs to insane levels, leaving local Telangana students who have lived here their whole lives stranded.

The "Home State" quota for NITW doesn't even feel like a local quota anymore. It just feels like a bonus quota for anyone who can afford to move to a Hyderabad coaching center for two years.
