Worth repairing a 2021 CUPRA Formentor VZ after a frontal crash?
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to decide whether it's worth repairing my 2021 CUPRA Formentor VZ or whether I should cut my losses and move on. I'd really appreciate opinions from anyone who's worked on these cars or has experience with VAG repairs.
Car:
- 2021 CUPRA Formentor VZ (310 HP)
- ~57,000 km
- Full frontal collision at relatively low speed (I hit the car in front of me at around 15-20 kmph)
Damage I know about:
- Driver airbag deployed
- Passenger airbag deployed
- Driver knee airbag deployed
- Seatbelts locked
- Both headlights destroyed
- Front bumper destroyed
- Hood damaged
- Radiator pack damaged and all coolant leaked out
- Crash bar/front carrier likely damaged
- Front sensors and ADAS equipment probably affected
- No side airbags deployed
- Chassis rails don't appear to be touched.
One thing that concerns me is that a few minutes before the accident, the car displayed Travel Assist unavailable and SOS/Emergency Call unavailable warnings. Then, during the collision, there was no automatic emergency braking whatsoever. I'm currently asking CUPRA to investigate whether those warnings were related to any ADAS malfunction.
My main concern now is the repair itself.
Questions:
- Is this the kind of damage that usually turns into a money pit?
- Assuming the chassis rails aren't bent, is this realistically repairable to OEM quality?
- Would you trust the car again after replacing multiple airbags, seatbelts, cooling system components and front-end structural parts?
- Are there any hidden issues that commonly appear on Formentors after this type of impact?
- Roughly what repair cost would you expect in Europe? (OEM parts, proper repair, no shortcuts.)
I'm paying for the repair myself (no insurance payout), so I'm trying to make a rational decision rather than an emotional one.
Any opinions or experiences would be greatly appreciated.
