Severe leg injury

Severe leg injury

Hi all ! i (22F) got into a bad car accident roughly 2 months ago. i broke both legs but the right one has an external fixator. i forgot the medical terms but basically the whole leg is shattered. I have to have the fixator for 6 months and it’s only been 1. I’m struggling big time with pain and just basic function. I’m in a wheelchair for now (will probably be for a while) and i really can’t function to do much. i can’t use our shower because the bathroom is too small. so i really am not able to take care of myself the best right now. i luckily moved back in with my parents after the accident and they help. i guess it’s mainly mental stuff im going through right now. I hardly sleep at night, am hardly eating, and am very depressed. Is there anyone else out there with a fixator? i’ll attach a photo for reference. any advice or words of wisdom needed!

External fixator

hi all! about 2 months ago i got into a pretty bad car accident, ended up breaking both ankles, and my right leg broke in like 3 different areas to the point where bone was sticking out. they had to put an external fixator on it that i’ll need to have for 6 months minimum. i am having such a hard time dealing with it. i was in the hospital for 7 weeks and just came home last week, its so hard to do things, i can stand on the other leg so that makes things a little easier but i still need a wheelchair to get around. i barely leave the house because of how difficult it is to get in and out of cars. im just going through a severe depression, i may be able to walk with it soon but who knows. i also had my bone shift inside my leg the other day and it was some of the worst pain i’ve ever felt in my life, i went to the ER for it. Is there anyone else out there who has one ? any tips or tricks? please let me know!

Coping with my car accident

Hi all, I (21F) recently got into a very severe car accident about 2 weeks ago that pretty much changed my whole life. i broke my left foot, and my right as long as my leg and ankle. i fractured my lower vertebrae, broke my right hand, and fractured my sternum. i still am processing all this and am having a very hard time coping. i most likely won’t be able to walk again normally for 6 months to a year maybe. i’m writing this from the hospital which i’ve been at for 2 weeks and still have over a week left to go. i’ve had 3 surgeries already and am having another one next week. i haven’t been able to do pretty much anything except lay in bed because im non weight bearing. i’m trapped in this hospital room going crazy. i’m expected to go to a rehab center in the next few weeks and then hopefully home. i guess im just looking for anyone who’s been in a similar situation, i know i am very lucky to be alive and also not fully paralyzed, as well as no brain or neck injuries. but i’ve always been so independent and it’s killing me not being able to walk or do much on my own. i know it’s only been 2 weeks and i have a long road ahead of me but im so extremely depressed. most of it is probably being confined to a tiny hospital room in an uncomfortable bed and hardly even seeing the outside everyday. Once my left leg heals (it was a very minor break) I’ll at least be able to use one leg and hopefully have a scooter or crutches. but my life is basically destroyed for right now. Any uplifting advice or suggestions would be much appreciated, or anyone else to share their experience if you’ve ever had similar injuries, or not been able to walk.
