PSA R4 users with a new Chevy/GM. 33.750 fix.

PSA R4 users with a new Chevy/GM. 33.750 fix.

I was talking with Uniden support on Monday about a fix for the constant 33.750 emitted on newer chevys and other vehicles. They gave me some tips and said they were actively working on a new firmware update, but didn’t have a release date yet.

Yesterday they emailed me letting me know they released a new R4 update and now it has two user KA blocks. I couldn’t adjust them through the R/tach app(I have a r4w) but I was able to scroll through the expert menu on the detector itself and set them. Constant 33.750 detection is no more. I will play around with the sensitivity setting for the block and get it as low as I can while still blocking it, but bottom line is you can now set it for 33.749-33.751 and poof. Gone.

Nothing was mentioned about it in the update description on their website, so trying to spread awareness.

R4W users- Update issue

So, preface this with I have already reached out to Uniden. They are going to help me figure it out, next step is using a computer to do the update and go from there.

Has anyone encountered an issue trying to update their R4w where from either the app, or doing the wifi update from the detector itself you get a “http req:26880” and the update fails? Detector is connected to wifi. Detector is Bluetooth connected to the phone. App works for everything, and starts the update process. Phone is on same WiFi network(swapped off my 5ghz one to the same 2.4ghz that the detector is on, just in case). Updating from the detector itself yields the same result.

Like I started with, I reached out to Uniden. They replied with a how to guide for everything I had already done. Also offered to send instructions for doing it from a computer. I requested those and waiting to hear back. Also asked them what the root cause of the “http req:26880” is. Google didn’t bring up much. So I’m mainly doing this to document it and see what the fix is and maybe in the future someone will find this in a Google search and it helps.

Update: went ahead and ordered a R4. Appreciate everyone sharing their knowledge.

Figured I’d see what everyone’s input is on this.

Currently have an Escort Passport 8500. Have had it for a LOOONG time. It did its job great up until about 6 months ago. Now it will not detect anything until essentially I am passing a cop, and then it says “hey there is a cop”.

So, it needs to be replaced. I’ve been looking and reading. Scrolling through posts here. I think I have it narrowed down to the Uniden R4 or the Escort Max4. Really don’t know if I would benefit from going to the R8 or similar “top of the line” $700+ units.

Knowing I was pleased with the old 8500, and it saved me many times over the years, what would yall suggest I get? Seems by posts on here that the R4 is liked. I didn’t have direction arrows before(although they would be nice) so is the R7 really any better than the R4?

I appreciate anyone’s thoughts and input to help me make my decision.

Edit to add: I’m not against doing some programming, but I’m more of a “throw it up there and let it work” type of guy(thus why the 8500 did just fine for me). So lots of adjustment isnt really an appeal to me. Set it and forget it is what I like.
