So currently drive a 2024 m340i and it’s been a couple weeks since I got it. Really want a good radar and have narrowed it down to r4w vs r7.
Wanted some advice as to is there a major difference between the both ofc the r7 has arrows but does it justify buying the r7 just for that? And if anyone has any good mounting tips that’d be appreciated too.
This came up as an ad for me, and I constantly switch my radar between 4 vehicles and desperately want a quick release/attach without having to worry about the cord or suction cup.
Just wondering if anyone has used their product and what their experience was with it.
I merged onto the hwy today and ended up right next to a state trooper running radar. Full strength hit and I only heard a chirp for a split second before it muted. Not auto mute memory, but just standard mute like it does when I pass an automatic door. I was driving behind him for a few miles and passed two other cops running radar, both of them hit but none of them made a sound. Anyone know why it’s doing this? I get long loud beeps for low level k band all the time and these were maxed out strength bar Ka.
When I first got into countermeasures back in 2020, it felt like a technology war, where new developments were constantly popping up and rendering gear from just a few years ago obsolete. Not just stuff like range being a little bit better but the development of BSM systems and such. However, I’ve had my R7/TMG setup for 6 years now and feel no reason to upgrade. There just isn’t that new thing on either side, and several hundred dollars isn’t worth slightly better range or filtering.
Not complaining obviously.
So, preface this with I have already reached out to Uniden. They are going to help me figure it out, next step is using a computer to do the update and go from there.
Has anyone encountered an issue trying to update their R4w where from either the app, or doing the wifi update from the detector itself you get a “http req:26880” and the update fails? Detector is connected to wifi. Detector is Bluetooth connected to the phone. App works for everything, and starts the update process. Phone is on same WiFi network(swapped off my 5ghz one to the same 2.4ghz that the detector is on, just in case). Updating from the detector itself yields the same result.
Like I started with, I reached out to Uniden. They replied with a how to guide for everything I had already done. Also offered to send instructions for doing it from a computer. I requested those and waiting to hear back. Also asked them what the root cause of the “http req:26880” is. Google didn’t bring up much. So I’m mainly doing this to document it and see what the fix is and maybe in the future someone will find this in a Google search and it helps.
Anyone see any sales or upcoming sales on Uniden’s products? Looking to buy the R4W, but hoping for some sort of sale for the holidays.
Since part 1 was such a smash hit, here is part 2. At last I received my custom radar mount from Amazon for my R8w. Put It all together and on my first trip I detected my first piggy being very conspicuous with his lights on. Great, I know this thing works. I understand that having a high-end radar and Waze doesn't mean I can rip through the streets with impunity but the odds are definitely more in my favor. I will never know if this radar I got would have prevented my first speeding ticket because I can't know if the trooper popped me with a LiDAR gun or a radar. I would need a laser jammer to get that full, maximum protection from LiDAR but they are illegal in Texas and also very expensive. I have to say, it gives me another level of confidence being on the road and having this newfound awareness of what's happening on the road.
That's a road I drive on every day and last week there were suddenly 2 spots where I got k band alerts on my R4 with only 1-2 seconds warning. I believe 1 was 24.124 and the other one was a different frequency ending in 6 iirc. Well there was nothing around there. No speed cameras, no cops, just some houses. So I drove by it again, this time with my R7, and same thing. Just 1-2 second warning before it goes full blast and drops away, and there's another spot on the road where the exact same thing happens.
I'm stumped what it could be. It's not a garage door opener because it suddenly popped at not 1 but 2 spots on the road, and goes off every time I drive by. It's not a speed camera as those are legally required to be marked here. It's not a "This is Your Speed" monitor. It's not a cop. What is it then?
2 spots on the same road that suddenly start giving off k band signals, they both appear on the same day, no visible devices on the road. Is it some kind of new hidden speed monitoring device they're rolling out? But then why are they on different frequencies? Anyone have a guess what it could be? Location is CT, USA
I bought a Porsche 996 a while ago and when I did, the dude I got it from said the original owner installed a radar detector, but that he did not know how it worked.
I have never used it, but just today I was fiddling around with it and got those lights to turn on.
Do any of you know what/ how this works?

So for the last 10 -12 years I’ve owned escort and had great experience. 9500ix, max 2 and max360 and naturally I’m leaning towards another escort max 360 but also been researching the r7 or r8- which seem to be beloved on this sub.
Would love some input. Especially if you’ve owned both.

How much did you pay to get your R8 hardwired to the rearview mirror?
My car came pre hardwired for an older R7, so not sure what all I should expect to pay.
It's my first time using a radar detector. I have been driving for about 5 years now and I finally got my first speeding ticket. Following that, I decided to go with the best, the uniden R8w. Let me know all your tips and tricks for using this thing.
I just bought a Uniden R3 and I absolutely hate having loose cables dangling in the windshield, so I ran the cord inside the panel on the side and behind the seal of the door, so it’s completely out of site. but I mounted the R3 on the top left of the windshield (so the cord would be hidden) even though the instructions said to mount it in the middle. Will it still work fine where it is mounted now, or the field of view be messed up? Do I need to move it to the middle and just deal with seeing the cord?
Also, my car has a stripe of blue tint on the top of the windshield from the factory. Will that mess with the radar detector? Is it OK to mount it behind that tint or does it need to be below it?

I recently gave my buddy my r8w when i moved to the 9. we had the same vehicle. When he taps his from the map light it pulls constant power and is constantly on whereas mine was on/off based on the vehicle engine state. any thoughts or mitigations?
Was driving down the interstate. Left lane. Radar unit off. Stereotypical speeder car behind me. I speed up. It speeds up. We’re both speeding, passing traffic (not egregiously, but still faster than the flow of traffic). I’m watching in my rear view. We enter a speed zone where the limit goes down. We’re still going. He’s about two car lengths away from me. I hit the instant-on. Immediately, he’s about fifteen car lengths away from me. Gotcha. Obviously didn't pull him over (that's no fun). I know he knows. He knows I know. Get punked.
Think i need an update? It did chirp in the past whenever it was hit with lidar.
