Should I trade it in for a V1G2? I don't feel like they're giving me much so what to do with it?

Hello everyone, I’m fairly new to radar detectors and I just heard about instant on. Does anyone know if you can prevent this somehow? Also if needed I have a r8w.

I bought my used 2017 BMW 650i a few months ago and his has this radar detector that is connected but not visible. I want to cut it off and have no clue how to. Please help 😵‍💫

~1 week of continuously testing. I have heard about detectors interfering with each other but wanted to run the test. Both on the top of windshield, one far left, other far right to try and keep them as far away as possible from each other. I would unplug one or the other on some tests to see if it still pings the KA or not. This was strictly a “narrow” KA test. k band is non existent where I’m at and never had laser alerts during my test. Surprisingly to myself. The Valentine and R8 were within honestly barely noticeable to my brain reacting to them. With 80% of the time the valentine slightly having the edge on the R8. I still love primarily using my R8. But wanted to share, of a hats off to Valentines range, both were hitting 1.5 to max was almost 2 mile on identified target. No terrain or buildings. Most of my driving is on interstate so that’s where most of the testing was done

Can you guys give me suggestions for radar detectors that are invisible to radar detector detector and that also work good. I live in Quebec and it’s illegal to have radar detector, which is why I really need one that isn’t visible to radar detector detector equipment.

Hello all! I recently installed a climate comfort windscreen in my e90m3. I'm very interested in a radar detector, and was planning on buying an R8, but now it's come to my attention that through the climate windscreen, I'll get little to no radar detection from the front. I'm going to borrow a friend's R8 to test in both my cars (one climate, one normal windshield, but otherwise I'd love to know if there are any remote front sensor option for a non-$4-8000 installed option.

Driving down I 87 N from Western ave to Latham. There’s a u turn after exit 2a I believe and twice now a trooper was sitting there pointing some type of radar gun out his window. I didn’t get any Ka band or laser either time. I have an R4w. Maybe he wasn’t shooting at me and that’s why I didn’t get the alert for the laser? Or is there something new out there?

I whipped this up in like an hour. I wanted a quick and easy tutorial for replacing the screen on my radar detector without someone rambling on. I didn’t want to wait for Uniden to fix it so I sourced the screen and hopefully fixed the issue with the supplier not shipping to different addresses. I can confirm it is still working great. Color is slightly lighter than original ones, but it is also cheaper to fix this way.

This is a relatively easy fix. Just need a Phillips screw driver, a soldering iron, and basic soldering skills. It’s been a while but I believe the only soldering was for the 6 spots on the screen bracket. The ribbon cable just goes right into the connector. Just be very careful of the speaker connector. Mine is nearly 10 years old and crumbled so I just soldered the speaker wires to the pads on the board.

I’d be happy to answer any questions that I am capable of answering. I am not a pro, I just like to fix stuff.

So, I've been decompiling the r7's firmware, and I've just crossed 10% decompiled. I figured I'd share some interesting findings.

1. The self test is entirely fake (I think we all knew this)

Basically how the self test works, it just writes a fake alert frame into the same memory block that the alert screen draws from and then the splash screen handler triggers the alert screen. Theres no pass/fail, it returns 0 if it finished and 1 if you stopped it.

2. There is no screen buffer at all. I don't know why. Pixels are drawn directly to the display controller.

3. There are 7 alert commands. X is 1, K is 2, 5, 8, and 9 (8 and 9 seem to be for mrcd/gatso) and then Ka is 3 and 6. The DSP sends these attached to signal frames, I think. Not entire sure but it seems like that how it works.

There are a ton of other little things, and some nitty gritty things like the false alert filter and the connection to the DSP, but I don't fully understand those yet so I'm gonna hold on attempting to explain them.

Looking for a radar detector. My buddy has an r8 and I like it, but I hate the cord as my only plug in like that makes it block my gpas and screen. What do yall recommend? Looking to spend less than $800

I’m in the market for a new detector. I had experience with them 20 years ago but nothing recently. Now that I’m looking, it seems all three of the top of the line units have issues. For the Uniden, complaints involve their lack of firmware updates. The Escort seems too dependent on crowd sourced information and the Valentine still doesn’t have GPS.

I’m tempted by the Escort but I refuse to add another subscription to my life. Is it true they allow current users to renew the service without paying? And have they been doing that for years?

Lastly, is there about to be a generational change in this technology that means I should wait a year or so? I’d hate to make this investment only to find out I just missed buying the new thing that is going to be the new standard. That happens too often these days.

Is there seriously no way to enable (all bands) Quiet Ride anymore?

Looks like QR now only works on X and K bands?

If I’m going less than 25mph, I honestly don’t care about any radars and it’s a PITA to always having to silence Ka bands since I live fairly close to freeways.

I haven’t used a radar detector in a long time and would like to pickup a used one. Looking for recommendations for older models which still have the technology to work well today. Thanks in advance.

I was driving up I-5 heading back to Oregon from Northern California when all of the sudden I see CHP 5 cars behind me and then instantly get a hard radar signal. I braked immediately and hard, then CHP got behind me almost tailgating me. I didn’t like that so I let off the gas without braking until eventually he just got back in the passing lane.

I wonder about when they turn off their radar and then suddenly turn it back on do we still have a second or two to brake? Because I should have been pulled over, yet it seemed like I slowed down quickly enough for them not to get my original speed.

The last two weeks I keep getting weak POP KA band hits in southern Indiana. I’m pretty sure it’s coming from ISP. Anyone else getting hits?
