JBV1 + V1 save

I got an alert from JBV1 of a cop 1.8 miles ahead, and shortly after my V1 picked up laser. I was skeptical if the laser was from the cop that was reported, or if it was some sort of false.

As I'm passing the cop that was reported, I see his door cracked open and him shooting laser. I don't know if V1 can pick up laser from that far or not, but having JBV1 running definitely reduced the risk of getting tagged.

Right after I pass him, V1 reports full strength Ka from the rear. I was watching to see if laser cop started to move, and I'm pretty sure he didn't. There was another white car coming up fast on the left; it turns out it was a different cop.

Would a detector without arrows have helped in this situation? I'm not sure.. It would've been easy to just assume the radar cop was ahead? There's only been a handful of times a cop has come up from behind shooting radar, but my V1 definitely earned it's keep today.

I'm glad I went with a V1 Gen 1 over a R4

Which stores allow return of Uniden R8W in case I don't like it? (never had a radar detector before)

Which stores allow return of Uniden R8W in case I don't like it? Online store or brick & mortar store.

never had a radar detector before. I'm still not sure if I will like it or find it useful in my part of the state(actually two states, since I live near the state line).

Edit: just wanted to clarity why I never had one. I had TWO speeding tickets in my life. First one was summer of 1986 and the second one was 1995(or 1996). Since then, I've never had a traffic ticket.

thanks!

Was the Escort Max 360 MKII?

I’ve done what I could with the settings, looked it up online for guidance and all this thing does daily is beep from home to work to family trips. Is this radar detector a flop?? I’d like some help if anyone has knowledge in this specific radar!

Sherlock Police Detector

An ad just popped up for this product, which claims it can analyze leaking microwave signals to detect police cruisers, whether they have radar active or not.

It seems very new and also quite expensive ($3500 for one model, before installation). Wondering if anyone has any real world experience with it?

Uniden r7

I just bought the uniden r7. I dont like the coil cord it comes with to hide the wires and i dont want to mirror tap it. Could i buy a usbc-rj11 and put the usbc into the lighter port splitter for it to work?

Metallic/Infrared Windshield on 2025 Nautilus, I can barely catch the “clear” area

So I’m an idiot and thought my windshield was glass because…well of course it is?

So I found out that the reason I am getting super late detections was that I have a metallic or ceramic infrared thing going on.
So if I put the detector to the headliner (highest it can go) I am only getting like 1/4 -1/2 inch of the dot matrix opening..

I tried it on some standard “your speed is” signs it it is much better, but wondering what you have done?
Are you catching as little clear space as I am?I may try it upside down I need to see where horn is.

Uniden R4 against Lidar?

Hi all. I have found great deal on new R4 for 250$. In my area cops usually use laser lidar and the thing I am worried about are those R4’s good at catching laser?

Worthy upgrade ?

I drive about 45,000 miles a year in my work truck, 95% highway. Pa mountain and curvy roads and the surrounding states. Is it worth upgrading to an R8 or Redline from a max 360c ? I appreciate how quiet the escort detectors are, and I really like the ez mag mount for quick switching to my personal car on the weekends. So I’m leaning more towards the redline. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Never had a ticket in my life and I’d like to keep it that way *knocks on wood*

Escort Max MKII

Just bought this and immediately completed a firmware update before use, yet it requires over 30 minutes to obtain a GPS signal, which then fluctuates. Is this typical for the device? My Uniden R3 on another vehicle seems like a more effective detector. What do you think about this one? Thanks ahead of time!

Custom 3d printed vent-mount for radar detector + dash cam

Some redditor sent me the STL, and it snaps to existing center camera vents really flush with no space to wiggle. Much better than previous suction cup solution where hot weather always knocked it off and triggered alarm. I'm so grateful. There's no blendmount/equivalent option for my car because the stem is too narrow.

There's barely any slack on that mirror tapped RJ11 cable though, I wish I can find a right-angle adapter for it or some low profile coupler + extension cable. Feel free to send recs my way if you find any.

Speeding ticket but radar did not go off

I have a uniden r3, while it’s not the most advanced it has always picked up cops with their radar on, never once gotten a ticket. It picks up X, K, KA, and laser. Tonight I got pulled over for “48 in a 25” on my way home in a street I do not go crazy on. My car does make sound, not obnoxiously loud, but enough for a cop to turn their head. My radar did not pick his up once, when he was right in front of me, or when he got behind me. I asked to see the clocked speed, he said it was in his car and it has been recalibrated. Is there a good chance if I go to court that he won’t have my “48mph” speed saved? It’s just crazy to me that it has never gave me a problem for years, is there a new laser they’re using or something??!! Either way any advice would be helpful as I’m fine with them lowering the ticket price if anything, it’s my first speeding ticket. I’m in NJ

Uniden R4 GPS

I have had this radar detector for about a year now and I like it most of the time. My issue is that occasionally the GPS fails to lock on and all of your mute memory is now worthless. I returned the unit once when it failed to connect to GPS for over a week and got a new one. For the last 2 days, it will not connect.

I live in Northern Colorado and it is sunny and smokey right now.

PSA R4 users with a new Chevy/GM. 33.750 fix.

I was talking with Uniden support on Monday about a fix for the constant 33.750 emitted on newer chevys and other vehicles. They gave me some tips and said they were actively working on a new firmware update, but didn’t have a release date yet.

Yesterday they emailed me letting me know they released a new R4 update and now it has two user KA blocks. I couldn’t adjust them through the R/tach app(I have a r4w) but I was able to scroll through the expert menu on the detector itself and set them. Constant 33.750 detection is no more. I will play around with the sensitivity setting for the block and get it as low as I can while still blocking it, but bottom line is you can now set it for 33.749-33.751 and poof. Gone.

Nothing was mentioned about it in the update description on their website, so trying to spread awareness.

Radar Detector in Ontario

Hypocritically, if someone were going from USA to ON, Canada, would it be safe to leave their radar detectors up. Do cops there have RDDs? That person in question is rocking a Uniden R8.

IF its safe enough to leave it up, do cops mostly run KA band there?

Thanks guys

Radar detectors in Vancouver

I recently picked up a Uniden R7 and was wondering if anyone around Metro Vancouver has any tips for using it. I’m trying to figure out what bands are most commonly used by police here and whether K band is still something worth keeping enabled or if it’s mostly Ka band now. Any recommendations for settings or other things I should know for driving around the Lower Mainland would be appreciated.

Mounting on the Freckle portion of the windshield?

Good Morning

I wanted to see if anybody has had any success with mounting a regular detector on the freckled portion of a windshield.

I know you’re not supposed to do it there because it’s not flat and the radar detection will fall off which it did 😂😂but I just wanted to see if anybody had any tips or tricks that they were able to use to make it work.

The current spot that I’m trying to mount it at is about half freckle and half normal windshield.

The first picture is where I want to mount it and the second picture would be the backup option.

Thank you!
