4 nights in Maine: Mahoosuc or Moosehead?

Hi! My partner and I recently moved to MA from Alaska. We have visited Acadia area twice and have loved it, reminds us of Alaska quite a bit. We are thinking of visiting a different part of Maine for about 5 days/4 nights in July for my bday. We're looking to hike and possibly fly fishing. After doing some research, I'm mostly deciding between the Bethel/Grafton Notch (Mahoosuc Range) area and the Moosehead Lake area. I'd love to hear people's thoughts on either (or both!).

We're driving from Cape Cod, so we'd probably arrive late in the evening on the first day. Moosehead adds about 1.5 hours of driving compared to Mahoosuc, which isn't a dealbreaker, but it has me wondering what makes the most sense...

  • If you had 5 days/4 nights, would you pick one area or split the trip between Mahoosuc and Moosehead (roughly 2 nights in each)? [Im leaning towards choosing one spot/area]
  • Is Moosehead worth the extra drive, or would you stick with Mahoosuc? Not sure how different they are..
  • Are there any towns you'd recommend staying in on the way up (or nearby) to break up the drive that first evening? Like maybe within ~2 hrs.
  • Is there another area entirely that we should consider?

We're looking for medium-difficulty hikes with great scenery, and any recommendations for fly fishing and/or swimming spots would also be appreciated. We don't mind driving a bit each day if it means seeing some amazing places. Def prefer more secluded, quiet areas, no need for amenities. Thinking of either tent camping or renting a cabin if I find one.

If we go to Moosehead, we're also open for maybe renting a boat for the day (or kayak) if worth it...?

We don't get a lot of time off and we won't live in the NE for too long so hoping to make the most out of every time I can get up to Maine.

Thank you!!

Help choosing dive lights - Wurkkos / OrcaTorch / DGX combo?

Hi divers! I'm hoping you can provide some opinions and thoughts on dive lights. This sub has been extremely helpful in researching lights but now I'm not sure which 3 to go with. I’m getting a bit overwhelmed comparing specs and beam angles. My main thing is that I do NOT like excessively bright lights underwater, so wanting something good but that isn't stadium lights bright if that makes sense. I've had my underwater kinetics lights for quite some time now and think it's time for an upgrade.

I'm looking to purchase 3 lights, likely 1 primary and 2 backups. Recreational diving, reefs and wrecks (no penetration). Mostly for night dives but if they can work during day dives to look into nooks and crannies that's a plus. Not a fan of canisters/big bulky ones. Plus if lighter and good for traveling.

What I'm considering:

  • Wurkkos DL10R: read some great things about this one on this sub. like that it is rechargeable. Primary?
  • Wurkkos DL08: this one seems to have lots of settings... maybe cool? Secondary?
  • Wurkkos DL03: between the L08 and L03 any comments? what's the use of the green laser? to point at things? The L08 has a wider beam range if im understanding correctly?
  • DGX Gears 600 TWIST: this one seems like a little powerful one; worth going with the 700? Secondary

I was thinking of going with the DL10R, DL08, and the DGX but not sure, especially since I also saw these recommended in this sub:

I looked at BigBlue but currently outside my budget. Not sure about the pros/cons between the Wurkkos and OrcaTorch ones.

Which 3 would make the most sense to get?
Also looking for a good replacement tank marker/light since I lost mine - any suggestions?

Thank you!
