Volans Añejo first fill vs second fill

Was incredibly lucky to find a bottle of the first batch of Volans Añejo, this was the “first fill” of these barrels which I would imagine were refilled for batch 2. The color difference is very noticeable as you can see, it’s even darker than the 3 and 7 year extra añejos in the second picture. I love the 2nd fill, it could very easily be the best añejo I’ve had, it’s leathery tobacco notes balance so well w the 1579 minerality. I think the 3 year extra añejo is even better though, it drinks almost like a reposado and has so much more flavor and agave than any other XA I’ve had. I’m currently going to save the first fill and the 7 year for special occasions/ life accomplishments. Has anyone here tried them all and if yes how would you compare the first fill to the 2nd fill and the rest of the bunch? TLDR: the first fill anejo looks crazy dark and I love Volans, lol.

Can’t Handle the Lactic funk, need mixing ideas.

Like the Title says, I currently have two bottles that are just to Lactic for me to enjoy. More specifically it’s Caballito Cerrito Azul 46 blanco and Valor repo. Tried to let the Caballito open up for a few months but there is still just too much stinky cheese/ burnt rubber on the nose and I can’t enjoy it neat or on the rocks like I normally do. I was wondering if anyone had any cocktail suggestions that would help really tone down the lactic notes so I can actually kill these bottles eventually. I love Paloma’s but am worried that the citrus is just gonna accentuate the funk. Also sort of pt 2 to this: does this mean I won’t like Mezcal? I’ve had tons of tequilas but only the ones that have been described as mezcal adjacent like the ones above or siembra ancestral have given me those sour notes that really turn me off. Does all mezcal have these notes too? Thanks as always r/tequila people.
