APPROVED! Reside Re-Rental Timeline

Hello! I've been frequenting this sub for a few months and since I've officially signed my lease and put a deposit down with movers, I realized it was time to make my approval post!

Neighborhood: Bushwick
AMI: 130%, 2 people
Log: N/A

I applied to two different units in Bushwick on June 17, 2026 via airtable on Reside. Same price, but one is a 1bd and one is a 2bd.

I received an email for both the following day, but with different content. One agent asked for my touring availability, and the other immediately asked for proof of income and identification.

We toured the 2bd on Saturday, June 20, and submit additional information after our tour, as requested by the agent. We had these documents ready to go before hand.

Documents for the other apartment, the 1bd, were submitted on June 18, the day we received the email requesting more information, but did not hear back for a tour until Sunday evening.

I toured the 1bd apartment on Tuesday evening, June 23. After touring the 1bd, they sent us more forms to sign, so we called the agent for the 2bd unit and asked if they had an update. They said if we had not heard back yet, it was likely a no, so we submit another round of docs for the 1bd.

The next day, June 24, the agent from the 2bd called to say that we were moving forward! They requested a handful of more documents, which we sent the same day.

On Friday, June 26, the 1bd let us know our documents were approved by Reside and being sent to HPD for final approval. The following Monday, June 29th, the 2bd let me know our documents were also approved and being sent to HPD for final approval.

That night, June 29th, I received a text letting me know we were approved for the 1bd and asking about setting up a lease signing. My partner and I spoke for a while before deciding we would turn this unit down officially, hoping our other documents would also be approved. It was definitely scary to turn it down without confirmation of the other unit, but we did.

Luckily, July 2nd, we received confirmation that HPD had accepted our documents and we were moving forward to sign a lease for July 15! The lease was signed same day, a deposit was sent after the holiday weekend, and I put down a deposit with movers this week. We are so excited!

Reviewed by HPD for 2 Re-Rentals

Hi all, bit of a beautiful but confusing situation I have found myself in.

I have applied to 2 re-rentals with affordable living that are now both moving forward for review with HPD. However, I know there is a clause stating we will withdraw other applications, should we choose to move forward with signing a lease.

Does this mean if we receive confirmation of one unit first, it will automatically disqualify us for the other unit we are being reviewed for? There is one unit we vastly prefer, and I'm afraid to lose it since my papers for the other unit were sent a day sooner. Will we have time once one is offered to get results on the second unit before making a decision? Has anyone ever been denied once it went to HPD? Any insight is appreciated!

Protocol for Seeing Subway Surfing

Hi NYC. I live in BK and have noticed the influx of subway surfing occurring, as I'm sure a lot of us have. The other day, on the way home, I was in the last train car on the M when 2 rowdy teenage boys were loudly discussing subway surfing, encouraging each other to do it while simultaneously mocking the MTA anti-surfing talking points. They walked back and forth between cars but luckily stayed planted on the ground until we reached my stop, which was the next stop. I alerted the conductor, who was a young woman that seemed to also have no idea what to do and promised to drive slow to the next stop.... is that the only prevention strategy we have? is there a better way to confront this head on? I know these teenagers would not have listened to me, but I felt helpless watching them debate this openly while I stood by. What is the proper protocol when you overhear teenagers talking about subway surfing?
