Vile moments in KNY

The post about Koku-monster got me thinking about this question. Is there anything in KNY that you find repulsive? Something more disgusting than eating people.

Douma and alcohol

I read that Douma, as a human, loved sake (no doubt about it), but after becoming a demon, he couldn't drink it anymore.

But Tamayo managed to learn to drink tea again. It's strange that such a powerful demon as Douma who could break down any poisons couldn't learn to drink sake again.

I wonder why.

Or maybe Muzan wouldn't allow it, because Douma drunk is too much.

Muzan could barely stand him sober...

Did you feel sorry for any of the demons when they died?

Which demon's death truly upset you? Why?

And whose death made you especially happy?

The answer to the first question is probably most often "Akaza," and to the second, "Kaigaku" and "Douma"...

Perhaps Muzan didn't necessarily intend to kill the Lower Moons?

Because if he'd been determined to destroy them, there was no need to gather them in the castle and announce it. Perhaps it was a test. And Muzan didn't like what he heard and read in their thoughts.

If everyone had been thinking something like, "Oh, what a shame I disappointed the wonderful Lord Muzan, I'm so ashamed, if I had another chance, I'd kill ten Hashiras with my bare hands, oh, how I want to go kill slayers right now"... Muzan would have let them live.

But one started thinking how afraid she was of the Hashiras, another thought "easy for him to say," a third started planning an escape, a fourth dared to beg for blood...

In short, they acted short-sightedly and completely disappointed him.

So he left only the one who thought something like "Wow, I'm about to be eaten!"

Why is Muzan afraid of his demons?

I've seen it mentioned many times that Muzan hates other demons, preventing them from uniting and maintaining competition between them because he's afraid they'll plot against him.

But... how is this even possible?

  1. He can read their minds and view their memories.

  2. He completely controls their existence and can kill one or 100 demons with a single move or even a single act of will.

  3. He's simply so much stronger that even if an entire army of demons tried to overthrow him, he would destroy them.

So what is he afraid of?

Some questions about Eternal Paradise Faith

Why weren't any of Douma's followers embarassed by his fangs? I mean, it's hard to see it as a sign of something divine, like rainbow eyes or blonde hair. Aren't fangs supposed to be directly associated with oni in the Japanese?

Also, can you explain where the cult's temple is? It can't be in the Infinity Castle, because people have to get there somehow. And Douma doesn't eat everyone, so someone has to leave free.

And Kotoha with Inosuke definitely lived upstairs. Anyway, it was founded by Douma's parents, and he simply inherited it.

So, is his temple above ground? Or does he have two — one above ground, one underground? Like, you go to the one above ground, and then Nakime transports you to the lower temple, and then Douma devours you there.
But if his temple is up there and he hangs out there, how come the slayers haven't found out about it?.. So, Douma is this cool cult leader to whom the suffering come, but for years Shinobu and the others haven't heard anything about this strange, fanged man with multicolored eyes that even have kanji in them? Just from the description, Shinobu should have suspected something...

And has anyone ever wondered where so many cultists, especially women, go over the years? After all, Douma devours them in large quantities.

In short, I don't understand at all how it all works...

Demon's mental age

Do you think demons in canon behave according to the age at which they were turned, or are they psychologically older?

For example, Daki was 13 when she became a demon, and sometimes she acts like an adult, sometimes like a teenager.

Looking at the others, it also seems like centuries of demonic life haven't had much of an effect on their brains. It's hard to call any of them wise. When you remember that Akaza and Douma were turned when they were no more than 20, a lot of their behavior becomes clear...

Only Rui seems far from childish in his behavior. And maybe Kokushibo seems more mature. He was the oldest of them when he was turned... or it was Gyutaro?

Is Douma incapable of feeling physical pain?

I’ve been reading the manga and noticed that whenever the girls manage to land a hit on Douma — like piercing his body or slicing his torso nearly in half — his expression shows nothing but mild surprise. Even when he’s poisoned by wisteria, he’s merely surprised by his condition; there are no grimaces of pain, nothing at all.

It seems like every other demon screamed when they were beheaded, but not him! Does he simply not feel physical pain?

I get the part about emotions, but this is something else entirely.

Absorption

I read in a discussion somewhere that only Muzan, Kokushibo, and Doma are capable of absorbing humans in that way — is that true?

But what about the train incident, where the guy was planning to devour 200 people at once — wasn't that done via absorption?

Blood battles

How do blood battles work?

Any demon can challenge another to a battle, and the other demon can't refuse?

Is it necessary to coordinate this issue with Muzan and get his permission, or can any demon come to another and say "I bet I'll kick your ass"?

Does Muzan oversee the battle and determine the winner?

Does the loser have to be eaten by the winner, or is it not necessary??

Can you only challenge someone one rank higher than you, or anyone at all? If, for example, Rui were to challenge Akaza or Enmu were to challenge Douma (let's assume they've gone mad or decided to commit suicide), wouldn't the Upper Moons have the right to send them to hell and must fight them?

Akaza's principles

Do you think if Akaza had to fight Mitsuri or Shinobu, he'd be able to give up his principles regarding women? Maybe he'd team up with Shinobu against that one asshole... (just kidding)

Douma and wisteria

I have a question about the wisteria poison. Let's say Douma had managed to escape before his head was cut off. Would he have been able to cope with that amount of poison after some time, or would he have died anyway? Also, wisteria poison dissolves internal organs, right? If Douma had received another dose of the substance Tamayo created that turns demons back into humans immediately after the wisteria, would he have been unable to regenerate and would have died? But would he have had time to turn back into a human or not?

Because if so, perhaps it would have been easier to kill him that way?

For example, Shinobu could have kept a vial of the substance that turns demons into humans. Douma would absorb her, along with the wisteria and the substance. And he would die even without being decapitated. Profit.

Muzan's demons and their intelligence

Hi! Could you please clarify a couple of things?

What determines the resulting demon's nature —intelligent and human-like, or just a dumb, beast-like monster? Muzan gives everyone different amounts of blood, and those who received less simply live in the forest and devour tourists like a bear, while those who received more — well, at least wear a kimono and can talk?

If he can control the specific demon he creates, then why does he create primitive and dumb demons?

It's often said that he's afraid his creations will become too powerful and kill him. I don't understand. How can all these minor demons become so powerful as to pose a threat to him? He killed the Lower Moons, but precisely because they were too weak. But he actually brought the Upper Moons close to him. He respects Kokushibo and Akaza. He doesn't take Douma seriously. Who else could pose a threat to Muzan?

And besides, he can destroy anyone who shares his blood at any moment. With just one movement, or even with the power of his mind, I don't know. So I don't see how he could be in any danger.
