Crazy driver

We were just walking our dog past Fireside Elementary at about 845 when a darkish paint Jeep type body class vehicle with an overhead storage container turned north onto the pedestrian trail, jumped several curbs through the parking lot, went into the school sidewalk, turned around, jumped a few more curbs, before speeding off West on Dahlia.

Not sure if drunk or kids being stupid. We called 911 to report but if anyone else noticed anything might be worth adding a report. There were plenty of runners on the trail we encountered who could've been run over if timing had been worse.

Sad trombone

This is probably my ?5th? straight pizza attempt in the oven. Every time I think I'm making progress I get a day like today. Zucchini/pistachio/lemon just straight opened a portal to hell. Made a huge mess. Still kinda tasted ok. Pepperoni went in after and at least held its shape.

A tale of two wontons

Ok, more than two wontons, plus some other things.

3 weeks ago I did Friday lunch at Makfam, today I did it at Yuan Wonton.

Pics 1-4: Makfam

Smoky cocktail, fancy wuntun tongs, mala wings, steak and egg jian bing.

Pic 5: Yuan

OG Chili oil wontons (not pictured because I'm an idiot: shu mai, TFC gua bao).

My personal ranking of dishes: TFC gua bao (wonderfully crispy in a pillowy bao, great spice coating on juicy chicken), steak and egg jian bing (superb mix of sweet and salty, crispy and soft), OG Chili oil wontons (dumpling itself was about perfect, I would've enjoyed more heat), shu mai, wuntun tongs, mala wings (these were good, but probably not an order again for me, I'd rather just go to a chicken wing spot when the itch hits).

Everything but the wings I'd get again.

Service: I sat at the bar by myself both times and had great service. Yuan got immeasurably more busy and I actually made a reservation, even though both places I showed up right as they opened.

Ambiance: I think Makfam felt more cozy, but I don't have anything to knock for either. Both a little small. A party right ahead of me at Yuan tried to get a table of 7 without a reservation and host was like ..."bruh... Would you like to get some takeout?"

Je ne sais quoi: I had a blast with my bar mates at Yuan. Sandra on my left asked me about my sake flight, and when she said she'd never had it, I let her try mine, which inspired her to get one of her own. So we each got a good buzz going at 11am. The person on my right joined in the fun talking about what she got that was good. They each got the pad kraopao special and it looked great, but I was there for dumplings. Sandra confessed to me she carries her own salt and pepper in her purse because places don't season enough and I spied her going full Emeril on her krapao. Absolute power move.

I don't know what the point of this is. They're both great. Go to both.

Just a nice little Friday morning

Started off with biscuits and gravy from Mr. Biscuits. The biscuits had a touch of sweetness which would've been fire with a sausage egg maple syrup sandwich, but with the gravy was my only point off. So 9/10, fantastic people, good value, still hit the spot.

Next up a walk around Sloan's Lake to stretch out the stomach. Saw some giant pelicans and their Chiclets. Hot. 9/10.

Then back over to GetRights for a ham sandwich and pastries. I was alone and the patio was too sunny so I chose to eat the sandwich in my car, which was a rookie mistake. That thing ejaculated butter all over me. I'm sure to passersby I appeared some half human half bear cryptid with food remnants strewn about like a crime scene. Very tasty. 9/10. Pastries TBD pending my nap and rally.

Salmon in the Xl

On a bed of fennel, peppadew peppers, olives. Flipped it after the skin got crispy and let the flesh side get good color. Just outstanding cook on this.

It's memorial Day, not turkey day

Saw this handsome fella (gal?) wandering our neighborhood this morning. Just NE of the McCaslin Safeway
