(5-7k) Self serve Taco Bar, genius or chaotic?

Hello! My Husband and I are having some difficulties with deciding on wedding food. Guest count is about 80

My father very generously has offered to pay for the wedding party food.

Everything will be self serve, there will not be formal catering service as we are hosting at our house and having a backyard style party.

For context: We eloped last summer and are having a wedding party for our family and friends to meet this July. There will not be a ceremony or seating arrangements, it's going to be very relaxed. We are saving a fortune on the venue as we are doing it at our house. Our family members are able to provide party tents, tables and chairs.

Dad is a former chef and definitely has opinions. He also has connections from some of the restaurants he's worked at before which helps.

He had already thought to order eggplant parm from an Italian restaurant he worked at for vegetarians (which we might scrap) and an assortment of dishes from a local Mexican restaurant.

My husband and I have been thinking about a taco bar. My parents seem to think this is a terrible idea.

If he pays for a few trays of meat along with rice&beans, then we can pay for the fixings-cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, shells, salsa etc. And if we go to Costco/Bjs we can save alot by buying the larger bulk items.

Just wondering if anyone else has done something similar. Is there anything you would have done differently? Is this actually a terrible idea? Or does this make sense?

Please help by weighing in, thank you. 🌮

Were there any adult couples who were child free when you were a child?

My parents had their fair share of friends that I would frequently see when I was kid at holiday parties.

There was this one couple, who were always so kind and funny. I always looked forward to the bread dish they bring to parties.

I remember my mom off handedly saying that they had an abortion when they were much younger, that's why they don't have kids. She never knew why they wouldn't try again later.

Looking back I wonder if there was a glint of sadness in Betty's eyes when looking at us kids.

Either way, they were the only happily married couple with no kids that I could think of growing up. It was a modality I hadn't seen before. It was refreshing.

Just wondering if anyone out there had similar models. Did it persuade you in one direction or the other?

I'm so exhausted. It always gets the hardest during luteal. Yes, my body is asking for rest. Holy heck though, I just can't get things done, I'm falling behind on house chores, I can't stay outside long enough for my dog who needs to run around so much which makes me feel terrible also. I have a never ending list of things I need to get done. I'm just so done with this exhaustion.

I would like a hysterectomy in the future but I know it won't completely rid this horrible dragging feeling.

Can't drink coffee, it only makes the endo and cramping worse, and I'm far too sensitive to the caffeine.

Mentally I want to do things. Physically I want to sleep all day. I feel heavy and drained. Just sick of this!!! 😤😩😭
