JonSatin by conizk | based on “A Slow Burning Fire, Tended With Care”
The last night he’d seen him so, a day ago, Satin had stirred to wakefulness with the swirling of sharp cold air around him as the furs moved and the dipping of the bed as Jon sat up. Even with Jon’s back to him, Satin could see the tension in each breath, the restlessness in his veins despite the fatigue that plagued him, and the weight of his thoughts. It made his chest ache. He shifted to his knees and crossed what little distance sat between them and let his chin rest on Jon’s shoulder.
“Can’t sleep?” Satin had asked into the crook of his neck with a drowsy murmur.
Jon stiffened at the touch, at the closeness of them pressed chest to back, for the length of a breath before relaxing against him with a ragged sigh and a slump. He looked over his shoulder at him, and Satin saw the dark circles that clung heavily under his eyes. “Did I wake you?”
“Cold.” Satin answered lazily.
“The chill is deep tonight...” Jon’s tone was distant as though his mind was elsewhere, but Satin didn’t want him elsewhere. Satin wanted him right here. The days were for distance and duties. The nights were for one another.
Satin made a vague noise of agreement in his throat as he slid his arms around Jon’s waist to pull him into an embrace. He wondered for a moment if Jon would object to being held like this but no objection came, only the gentle pressure of Jon leaning some of his weight against him. Satin pressed his cold fingers to Jon, seeking his warmth to breathe life back into the frigid digits.
“What are you doing up?”
