Should you abruptly redirect customers to the new brand?

We have to do rebranding so that the new brand matches best our ideal customer - which has changed over the years.

We have about 13,000 customers.

My co founder says the rebranding should be so gradual that customers don't notice it and let the old dashboard still work for about a year or so.

Me on the other hand I'm arguing that if people aren't gonna feel the shock of our rebranding, then it might be risky just being a new face with nobody knowing about you. We've worked hard for our names and they will start becoming stale.

Anyway, our goal for rebranding has nothing to do with current customers but new customers, so my cofounder says we shouldn't bother existing customers other than a small announcement that this doesn't affect them.
