Fall Plant Dates Garden Planner Info

Fall Plant Dates Garden Planner Info

Edit - better photo in comments

Found this in my stuff. I set the first frost date to Oct 5th, since the average is Oct 3-7.

Coming up soon on the last plant dates for some of these. I am bulking up for freezing and canning.

Need a recommendation - pulling out lawn

Ok, so I am working to remove dead grass in mine and my neighbors lawn. This is my neighbors. We are going to push what rock is there in 2 feet. Then add Cedar mulch. The packets are some of the seeds I will be starting inside now to transplant in the fall. These won't all be planted in this yard, it is a reference of the type of look it will have. South facing.

I understand that growing from seed means it will be a multiple year process, and that is ok. I am aware that some of these seeds need to be cold stratified and will be placed in ther spots before winter. I will also be purchasing some other species to add in with these seeds for some biodiversity. 😉

I need suggestions for a focal point in this area. Once I figure out a focal point, I am going to build in a meandering path and place natives.

I've looked at stuff like Russian Sage or butterfly bush. But I think there are better options out there. I am leaning towards Karl Reed feather grass.

Evergreen bush?

Small (<6 foot) evergreen tree?

Some type of flowering bush?

Flowering vine on a trellis? (I have a Major Wheeler in the back, but I am worried about beetles)

I looked through some keystone species, and eh. I don't love them, but I know we need them.

Any place for me to start bloom scrolling to research?

Anything specific you would suggest I look at?

Thank you fellow garden lovers.

Water for the birds

How are you putting water out for the birds?

I have a cheap water bowl from Amazon. But it isn't very deep and has to be filled multiple times a day.

I considered adding a small container water garden when I redo my bed into a native habitat, but we have all of this 🏜️ happening.

Can you show me what you use for inspiration please?

Ornamental Grasses from Seed?

I am about to plant a bunch of native perennials from seed for transplant in September. I am looking at some ornamental grasses, namely Blue Fescue, Blue Grama and Little Bluestem. This is a bit out of my knowledge territory, but I am willing to learn.

Has anyone started these from seed and transplanted in the fall with perennials? Any other short growing ornamental grasses you would recommend?

Thanks!
