Govs Mansion Landscaping upkeep lacking?

Govs Mansion Landscaping upkeep lacking?

I’m curious to know what folks opinions are on this matter, I don’t want it to seem as though it’s a rant. Lately (the past few years) I’ve noticed a lot of weeds and very untamed shrubs. What little grass they do have has gone mostly to weeds now and I think they still are watering it at times. Particularly on the sidewalk areas outside the gates. But I also noticed that they have a couple rather large tree of heavens on the property and even a couple just medium sized ones growing as if they’re trying to keep them thriving, which is shocking to me. Generally speaking all the shrubs all of the ground cover is overgrown and not well kept. From the looks of it the operations and the funding that comes from the state is quite adequate for a property of that size.

Whose garden is looking great right now?

Show off a photo of your late season color (:

Most of my neighborhood (even my community garden) is looking pretty drab with all the blossoms having come and gone. Some hibiscus, dahlia, and Russian sage are still going, but beyond those... Anyone who is feeling their yard/garden at this stage of the year, please show us what you have going on!

Seed identification?

Been finding these around my yard/garden, and curious what they are? Or are they some sort of egg?

To my surprise

Check your peonies that did nothing this year. I just checked one I thought was dead. It's setting red buds so it's just fine

What happened to my flowers?

Hello,

You've might've seen my post from a weeks ago asking if blackberries dropped flowers in the heat. I kept the plant well watered and even added a bit of fertilizer to help the bush set fruits. But, every single flower so far has dropped without turning into berries. 😭 My only suspects is pest pressure, or poor pollination. I don't know what the exact problem is so I was hoping that you all have some insight. The only pest I've seen are the invasive Japanese beetles on the flowers, but in my experience they only eat the petals, and they leave distinctive damage on the leaves which I'm not seeing here. Pollination shouldn't be an issue, I have a lot of other flowers (sunflowers, zinnias, nasturtiums, etc.) all over my veggie garden which has attracted a load of bees!

I'm on the border of zones 5 and 6.

What to do for natives and soil quality?

Half of my lawn in the backyard is bare soil. It is under a tree but gets morning sun. What kind of natives or other things could I plant to help pollinators but also soil quality? I know it's a small thing but trying to be green and eco friendly where I can. Was thinking clover but would love smarter people's suggestions. Thank you!

Garden in a Box : fall sale

For those of you that are no lawn curious… I got the email this morning that garden in a box is *$50 off.
I converted my lawn to native plants 3 years ago. Now I get to enjoy morning visits from hummingbirds and my veggies are doing well from all the bees that come through the yard.

Here is the link: https://resourcecentral.org/gardens/shop/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=constant_contact

Edit: $50 off not 50% off

Cut flower garden - looking for ideas

My wife wants to have a space to grow flowers for a cut garden next year. I've been growing vegetables and natives for years, but this area is new to me. The best spot I have to dedicate to this is a spot that gets very little morning sun, then a good steady 6-8 hours, finishing with a blast of western sun. Can anyone make suggestions for types of plants, required space, etc? In-ground vs. raised beds, light requirements, can they tolerate heat? I do have some space I can make in the back, but the sun is gone after around 4PM. I'd have to pull up some natives, which I'd rather avoid.

Need some help please

My ice plant was gorgeous and full for the longest time, and suddenly (last month or so) it has been slowly doing this. I water twice a week and no one is walking around on it or disturbing it. It’s in my east facing backyard so it does get direct sunlight in the morning. Any ideas from experts?

Help identifying plant

Hello! I just moved into a new place about a month ago so I’m working on identifying all the shrubs, trees, and random plants around the place as I make plans for a garden/lawn overhaul down the road. This plant has suddenly popped up in the last week or so since the heavy rains (🙌) and I am trying to see if it is going to be friend or foe going forward. I am leaning toward a type of allium, chive, or grape hyacinth type plant. It has slightly rounded leaves that each have thin, parallel white lines or veins going up. It’s growing in a few clumps around an existing garden bed with mostly shade throughout the day.

Where to find catnip plants?

Hi all! More of a houseplant question I guess, but I'm looking for a catnip plant that I can pot and keep indoors for my kitty. Often I'll see them for sale with herbs in springtime but haven't seen any lately. I bought some seeds in spring and am on my 4th try of having absolutely no luck getting anything to establish - time to just buy a frigging plant! Thanks!

First time hail victim

my pumpkin leaves have these cool hail holes in them now…. Wondering if I should cut back some of the damage or if recovery is possible? Or if it matters?

So far the leaves are perky (mornings/evenings) and droopy (in the heat of the day) per usual but still worried about a mass pumpkin casualty

tyia for any advice

Too late to plant Buffalo/Blue Grama mix?

The reduced watering schedule killed off my lawn this summer wherever there wasn’t shade. It’s amazing how much demarcation there is between shade / no shade. I want to plant a Buffalo / Blue Grama mix in those areas, but is it too late? It’s a warm season grass normally targeted for July 1 - July 31… but it’s a little warmer this year… so has anyone planted later and been successful?

What sort of squash is this?

I was given some extra “zucchini” starts from a. Friend early this year. These grow on a long trailing vine that climbs. The flesh is a very light whitish green and they are delicious. I want to grow them again next year and want to know what they are

Anyone able and willing to help us get rid of our front yard sod?

Looking for someone that the ability to load, haul, and unload about 6 cubic yards of sod to A1 Organics (2300 W Radcliff Ave, Sheridan, CO 80110) in the next days. We’re xeriscaping our front lawn and this sod removal is part of the process.

You would need to your own vehicle (and/or trailer), be able to load into said transportation method, and then deliver to A1, and then dump it there. They charge $35/cu. yd. with a 2 cu yd min. Our payment will cover this fee.

Please reach out if you’re interested and can do it in the next few days.

Show and tell 😍

Of course I’m having perhaps my best year in the middle of a kitchen renovation when I’ve been more hands off than usual! Even with the neighbors taking me up on free tomatoes I’m still almost out of freezer space! Great problem to have.
