Cut flower garden - looking for ideas

My wife wants to have a space to grow flowers for a cut garden next year. I've been growing vegetables and natives for years, but this area is new to me. The best spot I have to dedicate to this is a spot that gets very little morning sun, then a good steady 6-8 hours, finishing with a blast of western sun. Can anyone make suggestions for types of plants, required space, etc? In-ground vs. raised beds, light requirements, can they tolerate heat? I do have some space I can make in the back, but the sun is gone after around 4PM. I'd have to pull up some natives, which I'd rather avoid.

Seattle -> Olympic NP -> Astoria -> Portland; Looking for advice

I booked a last minute trip that has a gap between the Seattle area and Portland, and I'm realizing I may have made a miscalculation in drive times for my itinerary. I'm looking for some honest feedback about the best options to fill a few days. Current Plan:

  • Day 1: Seattle, doing city things. I've been a few times but just plan to poke around.
  • Day 2 - 3: Woodinville for wine tastings, checking out areas surrounding, and a day 2 show at Chateau St. Michelle
  • Day 4 - 5: The plan was to drive to Port Angeles (hotel), check out the park and surrounding areas, then head to Astoria (hotel). Turns out that this is a bit of a logistical headache.
    • Woodenville to PA - 2h 45m
    • PA to Astoria - 4h 15m
  • Alternative to check out Hoh
    • PA to Hoh entrance - 2h, plus the line that will certainly be waiting for me
    • Hoh to Astoria - 4h
  • Day 5 - 7: Portland and surrounding areas

Is the better move to check out the islands surrounding Seattle, dedicate a day to driving the peninsula, pivot to check out Rainier? I live close to Rocky Mountain NP, so I was looking forward to a coastal vibe and the rainforest. I'm open to any suggestions - the only hard items are the start in Seattle, Tuesday night concert, and flying out of Portland on day 7. Most hotel reservations can be cancelled.

Thank you in advance!

Sushi recommendations, but not omakase

For context, I love al things sushi, and am an adventurous eater. My wife however, is not, and will eat the typical offerings - salmon, tuna, yellowtail. We'll be staying downtown for 1 night, then headed to Woodinville for 2. We prioritize quality over anything else, and prefer more laid back spots to anything bougie. I did do some research on the sub, but most questions seemed focused on omakase. Any help is appreaciated!

e-Scooters and sidewalks/crosswalks - question/clarification

I am bringing this up because I'm confused about what category e-scooters are in as they relate to the e-bike rules on Longmont's website. This is driven by my almost hitting an adult scooter rider that was using whizzing through the crosswalk at Main and 119 where the southbound right turn/merge lane on Main heads into west bound 119.

Are these allowed to be on the sidewalk, or do they need to stay in bike lanes? I'm accustomed to look for bicycles and pedestrians on foot, but this startled both my wife and I. I could easily see someone getting killed, as I'm sure most people do. A helmet may minimize injuries but a green vest seems like a good accessory. Anyway, not venting, just genuinely curious to see what the law says.

Yard waste compost - no food scraps

I'd like to get a small compost pile going, made mainly of scraps and trimmings from the yard and veggie garden. I don't want to have anything that will attract rodents, so no food scraps. From what I've read, the recommend a mix of green and brown, but keeping it moist. That's all well and good, but for a Front Range summer that seems like a challenge. Has anyone had any success with this, and how often do you moisten? I would plan to let it do it's thing, then use it to top off/mulch my raised beds in the spring.

Any in-ground veggie garners around?

I've been growing in cloth bags (dry out too soon) and raised beds for the past 5 years and I'm looking for some feedback from team in-ground. I really want to grow some strawberries and maybe even test a tomato or some other veggies in some spots. I've got some garlic I need to start and I've been told they really don't need much fancy stuff. Pro, cons, any info is helpful. Wondering about soil temps and other challenges you may run into.

Tomatoes - What's everyone growing this year?

I'm looking to fill the 6 slots of got in this year's garden. As of now, I've got Sun Gold (always a strong performer), and looking at Isis Candy and Indigo Cherry Drops. I did Berkley Tie Dye last year, but it was a low yielder so I'm not growing it again. New Girl performed well, and had a late but steady delivery, so I'll add it back.

Any recommendations for proven non-cherry varieties? I'm in Longmont, 6-7 hours of direct sun with afternoon shade. Raised irrigated beds.

I’m in town for a few more days and was looking for a spot that has some more genuine options for shopping. I usually like to grab a hat or some T-shirts that aren’t touristy - they are for my daily wear. Any recommendations are appreciated!
