A Three-Way Invitation

Hey, team.

My partner and I spent a couple hours this hot Sunday picking up trash. That is, these stupid bandit signs that people so cowardly put up in the middle of the night.

I invite you to pluck them as well, casually throwing them in the trash as you go. I verified with the city that they are illegal when on public rights of way, and they said have at it.

I also invite businesses that think this is a good way of advertising to kindly stick their signs' metal wickets sideways ** ***** ************* *****. In general, I hate advertising, so, yeah.

Finally, I invite anyone that's against this blight to NOT patronize these businesses.

Thanks for your attention.

Good, Safe Neighborhood Pockets for Kids?

Very possibly moving to Longmont in the next 2-3 months. What are some good neighborhoods near Main Street (within 1.25 miles) that are safe and have nice, friendly neighbors?

On the flip side, are there certain areas of Longmont to avoid/steer clear of?

Only been once for like 5 hours one day back when and fell in love with the town, just looking to be pointed in the right direction because this is probably going to happen fast for our family. Thanks all in advance.

Bear Spotted South Longmont— Rainbow Ridge Area

Had a neighbor text because its nearby. It's a mom and two cubs. Apparently it's raiding bird feeders. Animal control called. Watch your pets and trash.

Emery St Arrest - 10:20 pm July 4th

Was doing laundry and heard sirens and lots of lights. Thought it was for fireworks at first. There is someone on my street that has a reputation for racism, bigotry, and overall not cool stuff. Along the lines of “banned from Perkins for being racist to staff” type stuff. Looks like a domestic dispute call escalated into I believe the individuals son pulling a weapon on the cops and he was taken down quickly. Dude was arrested screaming about the KKK and taking the cops to court.

A poetic July 4th evening to say the least.

Thank you Longmont, we SHOWED UP for G-love & Special Sauce

Holy sh#t, how fun was that?

What an amazing show!

I want to say thank you to whoever at the city arranged that concert!

Where *exactly* are the fireworks launching from?

Trying to navigate an unobstructed view not in the main viewing area near main. Does anybody know exactly where the fireworks are launching from? I’ve only heard speculation it’s the fire fighter training facility off Martin.

Same question for the drone show?

Monty the Mascot

I'm getting old and I like simple pleasures. The fact that Longmont has a mascot is fun. It's a little disappointing that there doesn't seem to be any representation from Monty at city-events such as last night's wonderful time at Roosevelt Park.

I get it - the costume is hot and physically demanding. There is also a lot of sensory stimulation with all the waves, hi-fives, and group photos. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it.

I'd like to formally volunteer to take on the role as Monty the Longmonster.

From what I understand, the rules are clear: Never take off the headpiece, you can't talk even when being asked such important questions as "Does Monty play Minecraft or Roblox" or "How do you eat ice cream with those two sharp teeth?", dance moves must be appropriate: silly but coordinated, modern but not obscene.

I'm ready; let's do this. What do you say Longmont? Do you want Monty out and about?

Hey, I'll be around tonight - let's get that suit going and give out some free hi-fives before the fireworks.

Where can I sign up?

Best places to watch fireworks and drone shows?

I’m trying to figure out a good place to watch the drone and fireworks shows tonight. Was thinking Standstone Ranch but was wondering if anyone had recommendations. For me, specifically, I don’t love being “shoulder to shoulder” with folks so maybe a little less busy would be ideal. Thanks, everyone.

Colorado Pizza Fest in September

On September 5, downtown Longmont will fill with the aroma of bubbling cheese and freshly baked crusts as more than 20 Front Range pizzerias gather for the inaugural Colorado Pizza Fest.

Looks like it's also a fundraiser to help fight food insecurity.

How to spend today in Longmont

Hi I'm a foreign tourist and have a free day and thought I might hang around Longmont. I gots some questions please:

Q1) Saw a thing about that independence concert in Roosevelt Park tonight, worthwhile to check out or is it more for kids and families do you reckon?

Q2) I saw there were batting cages in Garden Acres Park; if I've never swung a bat in my life, is there like a beginner slow mode?

Q3) Where can I get a really nice slice of pie and a coffee later on this afternoon?

Q4) Any neat shops to check out?

Q5) not sure about the drink driving laws here, if I have one beer at one of the breweries like that pumphouse place will I probably be under the limit? - I'm a average sized human

Cheers

Update: Thankyou Longmonters! I had a real nice day in town.

  • Had heuvos rancheros for breakfast at Taco Don José's, was bueno
  • Ended up at Wibby and watched some afternoon world cup with a nice pint
  • Went to Garden Acres park and the afternoon really got away from me cause I ended up watching a softball game
  • Went to the cages after and loved it! No pressure, easy going and inexpensive fun. I found the 35mph baseball was actually easier to hit than the slow pitch softball which arcs too high for me. I hit way more than I thought I would. Highly recommend.
  • Not a lot of time left so I went back to main street and had banana cream pie at Aunt Alice's which I really enjoyed.
  • Went to New Castle Comics and games, great wee shop
  • Popped into that quarters arcade and played pinball
  • Then over to the concert: lovely vibe, great for people watching and G Love were a lot of fun

Really impressed with Longmont, thanks to everyone for the recommendations. Cheers!

Bars for single’s?

So I am 26, single, have a bit of social anxiety, and do have autism (lvl 1) but nobody can tell unless I told them. I’ve decided I want to start trying out going to bars to meet people. I know it won’t be a magic button. I’m going to have to put in effort, as nobody will just be waiting for me. I don’t usually drink do do just a couple things that I don’t really wanna get into but I plan on having not crazy drinks or anything like that.

Anyway, with the point of this post is, I’m looking for bars in the area that are good for singles. I live in Berthoud so, Loveland and Longmont (some of the surrounding areas too) are usually where I spend the most time. Fort Collins depending on the location can get pretty far. Usually I’m interested in people around 22-35 just depending on the situation and vice versa as well. i’m assuming that there’s going to be a lot more men than woman, but I guess that’s just how it goes. Sorry for the really long post. Bars may not work for me, but I at least need to give them a try.

if anyone is able to provide places that they have been or know of that are good for singles around my age up to 35ish and aren’t usually super packed, that would be wonderful. thank you all so so much.

Also what’s a good time to get there?

Information about the ballot petitions being pushed outside of Fourth of July events in the city

Information about the ballot petitions being pushed outside of Fourth of July events in the city

The two main petitions being pushed outside the Fourth of July events this weekend are

  1. To expand the Boulder County Board of County Commissioners from 3 members to 5. It is being funded by an organization called “Big tent BoCo” who is almost entirely funded by grass roots, small dollar donations. You can read more about it [here](https://boulderreportinglab.org/2026/01/22/effort-underway-to-put-boulder-county-commission-expansion-on-2026-ballot).

  2. Initiative number 256. What this does is amend Colorado’s anti gerrymandering rules to add the following. Any now maps must hold at least 3 public meetings, not split “communities of interest”, not intentionally favor a political party, the Redistricting Commission and the Colorado Supreme Court. This is being funded by several super PACs who do not openly disclose their donors. You can find more information [HERE](https://ballotpedia.org/Colorado\_Require\_Congressional\_Maps\_to\_be\_Approved\_by\_Both\_a\_Nonpolitical\_Commission\_and\_the\_Colorado\_Supreme\_Court\_Amendment\_(2026)).

Personally, I am in favor of the first initiative and against the second one.

The first one seems like it will allow Boulder county be represented by communities who often have their voices stifled in the Boulder City centric County political landscape. This would probably mean more of a voice by communities such as Eerie, Lyons, and Longmont.

The second one has a whole host of problems. The first of which is mandating that districts should not split “communities of interest.” This would make democratic ideals fall victim to the efficiency gap. Second is the Supreme Court aspect, which is suspect.

In a higher level though, I actually believe gerrymandering in Colorado to be a good thing in the wake of the overturning of the equal protection clause.

If you are playing chess and your opponent stands up and punches you in the face you don’t simply move another pawn.

I am honestly a bit grossed out with those who are against redistricting in Colorado as they are, in effect, prioritizing their own personal feelings of moral and political purity over the rights and dignities of not only the most vulnerable (such as members of the LGBTQ+ community, racial minorities, and women) but also the economic and opportunistic freedoms of all people. It is an inherently selfish view.

The “when they go low you go high” argument simply doesn’t work when rights are being stripped away and politics as we know them are being systematically dismantled.

We either join in or our ideas and moral principles simply die out.

Hey I’m going to the show tonight and hoping to see other ravers there! Anyone meeting up before? I think it starts around 9:30 or 10 and goes to close.
