I was at one of the maker/art markets at the fairgrounds a couple years ago and bought this magnet. I absolutely love it and would love to find the artist. Anyone know them? I was not able to find anything online.
Our engine overheating light came on, so we stopped the car and had it towed to the mechanic.
I checked the coolant before the car went in and it was filled with oil.
Mechanic came back today with their findings, that the engine is probably not worth keeping. They explained that while it could have been just a head gasket or a cylinder head issue, but they won't know until they open up the engine, and it could be an engine crack as well and either way because there was a cross contamination between the oil and coolant, the engine bearings are probably shot, so it wouldn't be worth it to open up the engine to see if it was a head gasket issue. They said cylinder heads replacement would cost 7-8k, but we could lose the car shortly after and they won't do it.
Also, currently these Subaru engines are back-ordered, so we'd have to get a used engine which they won't do, and because it would be a used engine, it could have a similar issue behind it. The mechanic looked in their system and said it looks like it has been happening a lot at their other shops as well.
This is a local, good mechanic I've been with a bit. I've taken my car to the local Subaru dealership before and had terrible work done there, so I don't know if I even want to take my car there.
Anyone else have ideas, insight, or advice on what to do here? Seems like either my options are to do a possible fix on a probably bad engine or buy a new car. Thanks
