Dima? Your hiding here somewhere aren't you?!

I know I'm not alone in my distaste for the memory puzzles, so it was a bit of a jump scare when this showed up in Covenant. Interestingly, shooting it activates the beam. No word on whether that does damage to enemies.

Is exploring with a jetpack with it?

Obviously, the jetpack opens up access to a lot of places that are otherwise inaccessible, but are those places worth the pain of plugging along in power armor? Are there neat things hidden on rooftops and collapsed highways and stuff? I know the fall protection legs require a jetpack to reach, but are there other things up there? Not even legendary items, necessarily.

Edit: WORTH it, not with it. Stupid autocorrect.

Two Gemini mission questions

I'm watching a documentary about the Gemini program, and I've got two questions.

First, if Gemini 6 was intended to launch after the Agena had made one orbit, wouldn't the rotation of the earth have carried the launch facility out of the orbital plane of the Agena?

Second, the RCS tanks were pressurized with helium to ensure fuel flow. How did that actually work, though? How did the pressure force the fuel against the fuel line intake?

Faith 7 license plate

Several times recently I've seen a car with the license plate "FAITH 7" in the vicinity of the post office and I'm just wondering... Is there a Gordon Cooper fan in the area?

I know it's a long shot but, well, he's my favorite astronaut, so I have to ask.

Are there any autistic therapists in Longmont?

Not autism therapists, therapists who are, themselves, autistic. Bonus points if they understand what autistic burnout is.

Is there anything I can do about this executive dysfunction?

I am, and have been for some time, experiencing the worst executive dysfunction of my life. I'm AuDHD, so it's already a weak point for me, but this is ridiculous. There's a short list of things I can sort of autopilot through, but outside of those, I'm stuck. Task initiation, decision making, prioritizing tasks, all these things are just not available to me, and haven't been for some time. I just sit in my chair, all day, every day, thinking of the things I could do, unable to move. The frustration is becoming unbearable.

At this point, I'm desperate enough that I'm considering going cold turkey on the cymbalta and just dealing with whatever the consequences of that are. I feel like it can't be worse than this.

Does anyone have any advice? Anything that worked for you? Even just similar experiences would be nice to hear.

I am drowning, and the fish are useless

I feel like a man floundering in the middle of the ocean. I'm surrounded by well meaning fish (allistics) who are Very Concerned about me, giving me absolutely useless advice, because it's all tailored to _fish_ in distress.

I say, "thank you fish, but I'm not a fish I'm a man and I'm drowning in all this water". But fish, being fish, _are incapable of even seeing water_, because it is always there and they cannot even imagine that it exists, and that it could be harmful.

"Well if you're not going to flip your fins and push water over your gills, this is your fault."

"I don't have fins or gills!"

"Not with that attitude you don't!"

And that, friends, is what it feels like to ask for help or go to therapy.

Business owners: leaving trash for others to pick up is not an acceptable way to advertise

Despite the heat, every day I walk from my apartment at 2nd and Main up to the north end of downtown. This weekend, a local business scattered index card sized flyers along the sidewalk, in the planters, and on the tables of some of the eating establishments along Main. On Saturday I stopped maybe a dozen, today I picked up and threw away around 8.

If you are a business owner, _please_ don't do this. At the very least, it's inconsiderate to the person or people who have to follow along after you and dispose of your litter.

Are there any enemies that you feel bad killing?

I always feel a little bad for killing mutant hounds. They get so excited when they think they're going to get to eat a human!

I also came across a mongrel playing with a teddy bear. I let that guy live.

Movers asked for an "inventory" to provide a quote

... And I am completely paralyzed.

Obviously they don't need to know how many socks I have, but organizing and discriminating the things that go on the list or don't and where to start making it have me just unable to do any of it. I'm tempted to ask an AI chatbot for help but, well, I have pretty negative feelings about AI.

What are some memorable food hyperfixations you've had?

Scrolling through my past purchased items list reminded me of a couple things I hyperfixated on in the past. For a while I was eating a small jar of maraschino cherries every day, and before that crushed up uncooked ramen was a staple.

I struggle with executive function, so my food choices tend to be limited as I frequently can't do multi step preparations. I'm curious about other people's experience. What are some foods you've gotten hung up on?

I would've been a GREAT caveman

... Or, how Fallout 4 helped me accept my autism.

I've been in burnout for three months now. I've spent my whole life as a "high performer" (most of the time) in highly technical job positions, where my ability to spot patterns, solve complex problems, and hyperfixate on interesting problems made me quite successful. Right now, though, I am (if you will exist the colloquialism) dumber than a sack of hammers. Skill regression has me unable to access 25 years of engineering experience, and executive dysfunction has me unable to even try.

One of my existential crises since then has been around my sort of "intrinsic" value: could I bring any value to a mobile tribe of al paleolithic hunter gatherers?

I spend most of my days playing Fallout 4 as a comfort stim. I've put in about 1400 hours now, and I realized last night that the things that game largely resembles (knowing a large geographical area, remembering where useful things are, enjoying the application of the knowledge you've worked hard to acquire) would've been clutch for hunting.

I would've been a great caveman. You would have, too.

Has Milo ever mentioned the Bermuda triangle?

I feel like that was the big pseudoarch (or pseudoscience, maybe?)(cryptogeography?) myth when I was a kid (mid-80s).

I would love to see it. Doesn't come up on YouTube. Lots of the other type of video though.

Power issues this morning?

I live in the South Main buildings, 2nd and Main, and I was rudely awakened by what I think was the power cycling on and off, over and over. Once my brain came online, I turned off the breakers for my apartment, and after a few minutes of no apparent power, I headed downtown for breakfast at Tangerine.

Anybody else have any issues?

Pivoting from commercial engineering to science

I'm a burnt out autistic senior level embedded engineer wanting to find some way to leverage my skills in support of science rather than making rich people richer. I'm not in a position to work now (autistic burnout is awful) but someday I will be again, and I'm hoping I can find something less stressful to do for a living.

Many years ago, I worked in a neuroscience research lab. Since then I've done metrology, aerospace flight software, PCB design, and other assorted things. I'm also skilled in 3D printing, but on an amateur level.

Anyone have any sage advice?

Who killed the Cerutti mastodon?

In my head, it's basically "Stand By Me" with bored Homo erectus teens from a small cave seeking adventure. They just headed north up the Asian coast and never turned back, across to Alaska, down the west coast of North America. Not a population, just a dozen friends exploring the world.

But that's just my (incredibly poor) imagination at work.

What's your headcanon?

Executive dysfunction is killing me

I'm in burnout, and I'm struggling with doing stuff REAL hard.

I'm feeling uncomfortably hypostimulated all the time, yet I can't actually make myself do anything enjoyable. I just watch videos from the same five creators all day, and scroll Reddit.

I have probably two dozen unplayed video games, books I want to read, movies I want to watch, and I just... Can't.

I guess there's not much to be done, but I just wanted to say it "out loud": this sucks.

What would entice you to attend an in-person support group for autistic adults?

You may have noticed, if you're an autistic adult in the US, a distinct lack of support resources targeted at autistic adults. I've decided to start a local support group for autistic adults in my city.

How can I make it as attractive as possible to potential attendees? I have some ideas, but I'm curious to hear from others.

What would entice you to participate in an in-person support group for autistic people?

I realize that for some people, the answer is "literally nothing". If that's you, that's fine, this post is not for you.

For everyone else, though, what sort of things are stopping you from participating in a support group for autistic/AuDHD adults? I really think there's value in sharing space with people who will nod sympathetically when you tell a story about how you're being treated unfairly at work, or who will clap when you talk about getting that laundry done for the first time this month.

Here are some ideas I've had so far:

* Zero hurdle to attendance. No "proving" your diagnosis, no RSVPing.

* Simple website showing pictures of the venue.

* Explicit statement of expectations of conduct which are specifically tailored to be supportive of autistic people.

* Color coded name badges (red: do not interact with me at all, yellow: do not attempt to engage with me, but greeting is fine, green: I am open to being engaged with).

* Encouraging people to make whatever accommodations they need to be comfortable.

Any other ideas to make autistic adults feel welcome, and reduce their social anxiety?
