Hot Take: Money Trees is Kendrick Lamar’s best song.

Here’s why. It encapsulates everything that Dot is good at. Hook making even within the verse. Profundity made simple. Perspective that’s both specific and relatable. Features Jay Rock best verse possibly ever. Has humor and seriousness. A beat that’s simple but engaging and catchy.

It’s beyond me that this song doesn’t have a video, would have made it even more iconic.

The Greater Charlotte, NC metro

You don’t hear a lot about nationally Charlotte in general and I’ve always wondered what it’s like there.

The Pernell Theory

Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker has been described as a genius in the boxing we world. An expert tactician and untouchable when it came to defense. Small in stature and a southpaw, with a record 40 wins and 17 knockouts.

The parallels begin showing up in his and Kendrick’s love of boxing there shared small stature of 5’5” and a quiet personality outside of the ring. Another fun fact about Pernell is he’s from Virginia Beach, VA.

Maybe we get an album completely produced by Pharrell? Maybe some knockout blows while addressing what everyone had to say in the last two years? Another thought I had was how on the cover of GNX the belt he’s wearing looks like a champion belt? Also of course the hand wrap he wore at the Grammys.

I think there’s something there. What do you guys think?

Home buying in NE Tarrant County

So, I have been renting out a home in the Haslet area for a few years now, but I’m contemplating buying a home soon. But, I wonder if there’s something more affordable in the general area. NRH? Haltom City? Maybe I need to go further north and move to Denton !

Just curious to what your guys’ experience has been in this region of Tarrant County and could maybe share some insights in buying a home or maybe with the economy it’s best to sit still for awhile.

One of my favorite Dot features!

This verse is so crazy to me. The different pockets and voices to convey different emotions to take you in his mind after finding out you lost one of your homies. Crazy how far back this was.

Did Meet The Grahams go too far?

I saw an interview awhile back that Kendrick did with Rick Rubin where Rick asks Kendrick if ever had any regrets creatively, and he responded “I should’ve went further”

When I listen to Meet the Grahams I wonder if he feels he went too far. But also after some time as past I wonder if y’all think Kendrick was doing too much or his response was warranted.

He never retracted anything from it, and never removed the song like Cole, so, it makes one wonder.

I think we are getting another TPAB

If I’m following this guys moods and what’s happening on the world and how Dot usually responds to things, I feel we are getting another TPAB. Here’s my thesis:

GKMC is the classic debut album. About your upbringing and what you’ve seen. Which at that point it was only Compton.

TPAB you finally leave Compton see the world, specifically Africa your ancestral home. Every interview he seemed to feel opened up to revelations of how big the world is, and how it relates to home.

DAMN. there’s a spiritual tension. Questions of fate? Isolation? Lack of connection to the world around or home? Fame is lame.

MMATBS Introspection to the max, again, post Covid, what’s real? Whats fake? How did I get here? How much do I love myself and how do I treat others?

GNX I know exactly who I am! I’m the greatest rapper of all time. I’m going to stand in it and whoever has a problem with it can essentially die. I no longer care.

This next one will be possibly his biggest, most commercially accessible thus far but also incredibly angry and defining of his career.

What do you guys think?

On the precipice of this Iceman album release, it seems media is pivoting to a new narrative. One that paint Kendrick as some sort of paper tiger in a scheme orchestrated by corporate interests. I think it’s pretty gross to undermine all the work Kendrick has put in over a decade, and try to minimize his wins.

But, what I am observing most, is how every one of these guys being trotted out to extol the virtues of Drake. From J Cole to Gillie the Kid and back will not talk about the lawsuit publicly. No one is being asked how the lawsuit could affect hip-hop and that expression being used in court like what almost happened to Young Thug.

Why? What is going on? What am I missing and why is the switch up going down this way?
