Thoughts on fixing this

I bought this 2005 Lance 815 lite about a month ago. I knew that the left rear jack was tweaked a bit. The guy I bought it from had the camper for 9 years and bought it from the original owner. The original owner backed into something right after he bought it. Took it to the dealer and they said it was structurally fine and gooped it up with sealant. Guy I bought it from has kept an eye on the jack and resealed it a few times.

So here we are, 20 years later and I hit this jack hard enough to make it loose. I am pretty sure this camper has a wood frame and assume there is wood behind this corner. What can I do with it short of skinning the camper and replacing wood? The black water tank is in this area.

The battery box trim was worse than this but I took the screws out and beat on it a bit to square up the frame a bit. I didn’t do any damage to the battery box when I hit the jack.

Why so short?

I just got my custom highcom concealable panels today. I sent them all the measurements they asked for and they sent 14” panels! I’m 6’7”, why in the world would they send me such short panels? There is a full 6” gap between both front and back panels and my duty belly when I sit. The rear panel is so short I can hardly even grab it to put it on.

I waited almost two months for these panels that I must have in a month from now…. So basically I’m screwed unless highcom acknowledges they sized me wrong and fixes it.

Sorry, I’m just ranting.

Sitting on bed rails

My new to me 2005 Lance 815 Lite is sitting on the bedrails of my f350. I have a thin stall mat in the bed to help with the camper sliding. I removed the bracket for the camper entry steps so it doesn’t sit on my tailgate. The bolts are still there so I put a piece of 2x4 under there to keep the bolts off the tailgate. The camper is sitting about 3/4” off center to the right.

Should I build up the bed with another stall mat to try and get the camper off the bedrails? The center of the camper seems to be making contact with the bed floor.

EDIT: I put a one inch piece of foam board under it and got it off the bed rails. It’ll work well enough for this weekend. I can stick my hand between the camper and the bedrails up front, and it’s about a quarter inch in the back. I’ll probably need something that runs the length of the bed and tailgate.

Will the tailgate be ok?

I’m buying a 2005 Lance 815 for my ‘22 f350 SRW short bed. The camper is supposed to weigh about 1800 lbs dry. I have plenty of capacity for the camper so that’s not a concern. I’m going to be using the camper every weekend for six months. The truck is my daily driver, so I might unload the camper after each weekend so I can drive the truck throughout the week. My plan is to keep the tailgate installed and run with it down, I won’t have to swap the plate or worry about lights doing that. The Lance 815 has removable “saddle bags” for lack of a better term that let you run the camper in a short or long bed truck.

The question… Will the wire cables ford uses on the tailgate be ok with that camper? I know they make stronger cables or brackets. To be honest I don’t even know if the camper will sit on the bed or the bed sides.

Bang safe for rv?

Can anyone recommend a 🔫 safe that isn’t crazy heavy for a 5th wheel? I probably want something I can bolt to the floor, or secure in some fashion. Need something larger than a single lock box used for cars

Worth the hassle?

Is it worth it to try any build hard inserts for a pop up truck camper? I need to camp in a parking lot every weekend for the next six months while attending school. But I feel like a soft sided truck camper would be noisy while trying to sleep. I know a hard sided truck camper wouldn’t be too much better, but at least it’s not half tent. Also, I’m concerned about heating a soft side camper.

I haven’t bought one yet, but it seems like a soft side camper is much easier/cheaper to find used for a short bed f350.

Getting it home

I don’t know too much about these things. If I were to buy one used locally, is there a way to get it home without having the tie down bars installed yet? Looks like I’ll have to order torklift tie down bars online for my f350…. But campers get snatched up quickly. Can you strap the thing down enough to get it home? I’m looking at smaller campers that’ll fit a shortbed f350, nothing overly heavy with slide outs or anything. Is there an alternative to torklift? Those things are pricey

Soft armor alternatives

My head is spinning from the plethora of content about body armor. I delved into this about a year ago and have since forgotten what I decided.

Reserve LEO, I must provide my own soft armor. Must be certified IIIa armor at a minimum.

I need recommendations.

I’d like American made, concealable(for now), 3a with trauma plate option(ideally). I’m going to be hard to fit being over six and a half feet tall, and relatively thin (36” waist). I’d like the armor to be comfortable and not break the bank!

At some point in the future I will likely switch to an outer carrier, and either the soft panels I have will swap over or I buy new panels. Only outer carrier I’m authorized will be Safariland Oregon 2.0. There is another blauer carrier I can run, but it’s strictly armor only…. No molle equipment. I probably won’t bother with that one and will run concealed panels under my uniform top until I switch to the Oregon 2.0

Last time I researched this I settled on an off brand American made panel, but forget what it was. I’m undecided/unsure if I need custom made panels since I’m so big and goofy.

Sick of followers

I’m beyond tired of playing random squads and having them follow me when we jump. I don’t want anyone following me. Currently the only thing I can do is decline requests to follow a leader. But about half the time either one or all of the other teammates will follow me. I’ll try to transfer etc and they’ll decline the “invitation” over and over. It pisses me off enough that I’ll just leave the match and take the hit in points. I like playing with a squad, but I don’t jump with them. I catch up after doing my own thing for the first half. I know there is a newer feature to detach from the team after they’ve followed you down, but it doesn’t work until you’re almost on the ground. It’s actually a pointless feature.

What else can be done besides playing singles?

Got my first hangar

I got my very first T-hangar a coupe days ago.. now I have a proper place to work on my corrosion queen. What are you guys using for lighting? I have a single light bulb but was told I can add whatever I want. Beams are about 12 or 14’ high. I think it’s a 42’ hangar. I’m getting old, and don’t want to strain to see stuff I’m working on. The doors aren’t fully open in the pic.

Edit: the corrosion queen is still in my storage unit.. moving her Sunday with her wings. Her tail is in the corner behind my truck on saw horses

Sun shades

The last few days have proven that keeping my 42’ fifth wheel cool in the blaring sun will be difficult. The entire right side of the trailer is exposed to the afternoon sun. The exterior walls are too hot to touch and interior walls are warm to the touch. I’ve got shades in the windows with little effect. The awning I can extend a bit to help when the sun is directly above, but otherwise I need to stow it later in the day as we seem to have wind every single day.

Was thinking of putting that sun blocking fabric stuff people use on porches up from the roof to the ground, although we need to enter the rig from the right side.

It’s a 2015 heartland gateway. 15k ac for the main, 13,500 for the rear bedroom. Was thinking of replacing the main with a 18k furrion chill cube. I’ve done some work on my ducts, so they’re not leaking. Right now it’s 75 outside and 80 inside in the Colorado front range

Any ideas?

55+ Mobile Home parks

Does anybody know of 55+ parks in the area and up to Venice that allow underage residents? I’m close to 55, but not quite there yet. I’m trying to avoid calling a hundred different parks, which most will say no over there phone anyway but yes in person. I’m out of state.

Insurance claim

My fifth wheel has a cracked frame.. right now it sits semi permanently and we live in it. I do have insurance and was wondering if I should try to make a claim. Has anyone done this? I’d like to ideally keep this thing as its unusual floor plan works great for us. But it can’t be moved in its current state.

Edit: it’s a heartland with a libert frame…. They’re known to fail

Forming a team?

I’m tired of playing with random squads that either don’t communicate (or if they do it’s not in English), or do communicate but don’t want to team up again. Or worse yet, do really strange stuff that I hate (like constantly jumping the dang school).

I’d like to get some like minded players together so I have at least someone to play the game with. My last regular friend disappeared from the game a couple years ago.

My player personality:
Been playing on/off for 6 years.
I do not chase titles or rankings, play strictly to have fun.
I do not even know my current rank or kill ratios, because I don’t care.
I usually avoid hot drops.
I don’t rush squads.
I exclusively play classic erangel. Used to play classic Miramar but can’t match up anymore.
I play the NA server(fastest for me).
I’m older and try not to get worked up about anything game related.

Is anyone interested? I can get my player ID(or whatever) when I get home to my iPad. I like to play most evenings until my battery gives out.

We’re starting to get concerned here..
My spouse is recently certified in our state (self sponsor academy) and has been repeatedly turned down for sworn LEO jobs applied to. A couple times have been obvious, other applicant experienced lateral. Another place said no to a tat. But otherwise, we’re not getting any feedback. We live in an area with chronically understaffed agencies. My spouse meets all the hiring criteria, already state certified. Consistently makes it past interviews and talks with admin/chiefs. They bail once in background.

What are we supposed to do if no agency will give feedback on why they passed?

I’m tempted to try FOIA requests to try and get info but don’t want to burn bridges.
