Showing off her newest trap

That massive trap just opened up yesterday.

I think it's super cool how when she's outdoors getting the proper sun the leaves are thinner and the traps are way bigger with that beautiful red.

You can see leaves that she grew indoors under the grow light. Think it's super cool to see the differences in the way the plant responds to different light levels.

How much wider they are and how much smaller the traps are. Of course those also got sunburnt because the sun is significantly more bright than my tiny grow light. But that's okay they still seem to function fine and she's pushing out new traps like crazy. Glad I cut that flower stock when it popped up several weeks ago.

Graft or try to root?

Recently received this TBM clone as a freebie and I've had it in a pot for a while but no roots yet. I was considering grafting it on to something more vigorous but I'm not sure. Any idea on which clone this is and let me know what you guys think about grafting or not.

Thanks!

So much new growth this season!

I really wanted flowers this year but it doesn't look like that will happen.

These cuttings were flopped over and looking rough since I got them, but recently they've stood up a little bit and I think I'm seeing new leaves. None of them were rooted when I got them. The ones that had a couple of leaves seem to be doing better than the ones without.

Hopefully soon they'll be ready for my mad scientist grafting experiments.

Swipe to see 24 days of growth

My beautiful native Kansas opuntia.

Starting to get doubtful that I'll get flowers this year. I was really hoping for flowers but look at all those new pads!
