I received a used New Englander 13 NC-CLP as a gift for a little cabin I am building. I’m a newbie to wood stoves. The manual says the r-value for floor protection is 2. I was going to build a platform of 2x4 studs, then plywood, then cement backer board, then porcelain tile. But that is nowhere near 2. AI says that if the stove is on legs, this model needs R-2 protection, but if it’s on a pedestal, the pedestal acts as a heat shield. My stove is on a pedestal. (I did not consult AI; whenever you google anything now, the first results are generated by AI. pretty annoying).
When I pushed AI for clarification and evidence, it gave me page #s of the owner’s manual. I went to these pages and they say nothing about pedestal vs legs and R-value. Is AI hallucinating? Does a wood stove on a pedestal have a lower R-value for the surrounding floor, compared to legs?
