Gift Ideas

This month marks the one year anniversary of my father in law’s passing. I want to do something thoughtful for my husband, sister in law, and mother in law. I have the ornaments with photos of each of them with my father in law for Christmas, but what is something that I could do for them this year? Something that becomes a tradition would be excellent.

Thanks!

Pregnancy Headache Relief

I’m seven weeks pregnant and I’ve had a horrible migraine since yesterday afternoon paired with nausea and this morning I woke up feeling worse. What are your remedies for migraines and nausea? I wanna stay away from over the counter drugs - looking for more holistic options. Thanks.

Body Lotion

I’m pregnant and looking for a natural-ish lotion alternative to drugstore brands. I’d like to avoid essential oils, but a lot of the brands I’ve found (like Attitude) have coconut oil or almond oil in them, both of which I am allergic to.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a pregnancy-safe body lotion without coconut and almond oils?

Thanks

Prenatal Recommendation

We will begin trying for a baby soon. I am researching prenatal supplements for (ideally) both of us to begin taking now. I had a miscarriage last summer after unexpectedly fining out I was pregnant, so I want to be proactive and as prepared as possible when we begin intentionally trying.

I’ve found two that I feel would be good: We Heart Nutrition is the first and WeNatal is the other.

I have historically taken beef liver supplements. I’ve restarted those and my husband is taking them now, too.

Has anyone used either of these? If so, please share your experiences!

Thanks.

Olga Sweater - When do I stop?

I am making my first Olga sweater, which is also the first sweater I’ve ever knit. I am making the 2 XL size. My gauge was over by two stitches wide and one stitch long. I was fine with that because I want it a little oversized.

The last row (red) is the fourth row and should be the final row according to the pattern.

The pattern says to knit in stockinette on the back yolk until it measures 12 1/4 inches over four rows. I have done 4 rows and I’m still about 2 1/4 inches short for the length.

Is it customary to continue knitting in stockinette until I reach the desired length according to the pattern or should I have stop after this fourth row?

Hope this makes sense - thank you.

Cotton for sweaters?

New to knitting!

I want to knit the Mandi Sweater (https://ravel.me/mandi-sweater), but yarn is expensive and I wanna keep my projects affordable.

The Mandi Sweater calls for DK weight yarn. I found colors I like in Cascade Noble Cotton. The website says it’s ideal for tank tops and summer knits.

I want the final product to drape and not be too warm as I live in a climate that doesn’t get too cold.

What is the end product like when knitting a sweater with cotton like this? Is it typical to use whatever fiber you want as long as the weight is correct?

Thanks!

I can’t get this to go away

Does anyone know how to remove this? I have no timers going and this is really annoying. Thanks.

Yarn 101

What is a good resource to learn about different types of yarn? What are the sizes? Which size is good for what? Summer yarn versus winter yarn? Holding double to make a “bigger size” yarn?

YouTube videos are ideal for visuals. I’ve seen some online, but I want a reliable source.

Thanks!

Gauge Swatch

New-ish knitter here working on my first sweater.

I did my first gauge swatch for the Olga Sweater and I’m over two stitches across and over one row. Is this going to matter for my final garment size? I know there are about 10 inches of positive ease already. Should I go down a needle size, or will it not matter too much?

I’m already halfway done with the back yoke so I hope

I don’t need to frog (could I just switch to a smaller needle size after this section is done?)!

Thanks.

I’m new to cast iron and I thought I was following directions per the company website correctly. However, this is what my cast iron looks like. I’ve been using for about 4-ish months but I don’t know if it should look like this at this point.

I cook, get the food out with the chain mail I have, cook on stovetop to remove moisture, and use the company branded seasoning oil.

Is this part of the seasoning process?

Photo one is after cleaning with water and chain main on stove top. Photo two is after seasoning.

Thanks.
