Sensitive stomachs tip - soak the kibble
I have a boxer mix Clover, who has always struggled with stomach acid issues. She just hit 10 years old and the acid issues have gotten worse in the past year. Frequent groaning, lip licking and grass eating, with the occasional acid throw up when it's been too long since her last meal. I tried medicine, changing her food and giving probiotics which helped some but issues have persisted. Then the other day I read something, try soaking her kibble in hot/warm water before meals. I have always given her water with her kibble but never tried soaking it.
What I read said soak for 30 minutes but I found that soaking in hot water for 10-15 minutes is enough. The kibble expands greatly and makes it much easier to digest than sitting in her stomach for hours making the acid pump work overtime. It has made a huge difference and my sweet Clover now snores deeply instead of waking up with stomach pain.
My thinking is.. It's kind of like if all your meals were protein bars with a little water. It would cause indigestion sooner or later, no doubt.
