I’m developing a nano controller for the Kemper Player. Simply connect it to the Kemper’s USB-A port, and it works immediately.
The touchscreen makes it possible to add many more features. The colors don’t come across very well in the video, but despite the display’s small size, the color combinations and intuitive UI make everything easy to distinguish—even while performing.
I also plan to improve visibility with different display modes, such as a simplified screen showing only the bank and rig name.
I’m designing a 3D-printable case to protect the underside of the development board, which I plan to release for everyone to download and print.

Here’s a small update on my Kemper Player MIDI controller project.
I fitted the controller into a 3D-printed enclosure and added 9V DC power and a TRS footswitch input to the rear panel. It can also be powered via USB-C, and the internal battery lasts for more than six hours.
It supports both external TRS footswitches and Bluetooth MIDI footswitches. I’ve also added a metronome that can sync across multiple devices.
As I keep working on it, more ideas keep coming up. I’m now thinking about making a sheet-metal enclosure and experimenting with a custom rear I/O PCB for configurable omniports and additional MIDI connections.
There are still plenty of things to improve, but I’m having a lot of fun with this project and often lose track of time while tinkering with it.

I’ve been building a custom MIDI controller to make the KEMPER Player a little more convenient to use.
It started as a simple personal project. I just wanted to see the current slot, bank, Rig name, and effect on/off status at a glance.
But as I kept working on it, the scope naturally got bigger. Now I’m adding the ability to tweak settings on the fly, so I can respond quickly during rehearsals and live shows without digging through menus.
So far, I’ve added customizable MIDI messages for each footswitch, as well as a dedicated tuner screen.
The main interface is built around the KEMPER Performance Mode workflow. I’m also planning to add Preset, Stomp, and Song modes so I can experiment with different ways of using the Player—and hopefully make it more fun and practical on stage.
There are still plenty of small details to refine, but today’s job is to 3D-print the controller enclosure and assemble the footswitches.
Although, realistically, I should probably be spending this time practicing guitar instead…

Core Features:
* Touch Control: Tweak amp & effect settings directly on the screen.
* Multi-Action Switches: 6 footswitches supporting long-press, double-tap, and custom MIDI mapping.
* Real-Time Feedback: Displays rig names, FX statuses, and BPM via USB MIDI (Preset/Stomp modes).
The plan is to release the entire project as open-source once it's polished and ready!
