How common is heat recovery in modern foundries?

Foundries generate a huge amount of heat during melting, pouring, and furnace operations, and I’ve been reading more about how some plants are trying to recover and reuse that heat instead of letting it go to waste.

It seems like recovered heat can sometimes be used for:

  • Preheating combustion air
  • Reducing fuel consumption
  • Heating nearby processes or workspaces
  • Improving overall energy efficiency

I’m curious how common this actually is in real foundry environments.

Are most foundries investing in heat recovery systems now, or is it still mainly limited to larger plants because of cost and maintenance requirements?

Would love to hear real experiences from people working in metal casting or furnace operations.
