new cs61A?

new cs61A?

hello everyone, I am a incoming freshman that is studying cognitive science with a minor in data science. I am currently enrolled in DATA C88C and I just got an email about the changes to the course and how it relates to see a 61a. I noticed that CS61a the changes that they made to it sounds significantly easier than how the course was before considering how they framed the two classes together. I feel like I’d be missing out on a unit because the two classes are so comparable. what do you guys think? will 61a continue to be the infamous weeder class it is or with this new change would it be more manageable?

is 48gb of ram really worth $600?

hello everyone, i am a student about to enter college on the market to buy the macbook pro.

now I don't have any experience in the realm of tech, so please have some mercy.

this will be my first ever macbook purchase! I've been a linux user my whole life but I'd like to complete the apple ecosystem i've got going on with my phone and etc. anyways, I am planning to major in cognitive science to a bit of coding with be involved with this laptop. I'm looking for something long-term as well, hoping can last through the rest of my education (4-6? years). I plan to go into front end dev so bits of coding will always be in the picture. I also love to video edit, esp on da vinci resolve. currently on my laptop the app works-ish; it blows up the fan and can get a bit laggy after a while. i checked the ram of my current laptop and it is 16gb.

What specs for the 14 in macbook pro would you guys recommend for me? from what i've researched, RAM is the most important spec of them all so that's why i decided to focus on it. However I will just list the other specs i have in mind, and feel free to advise.

14-inch, standard display (i heard nano diffuses the color), m5pro, 15-core cpu/16 core gpu, 24 OR 48gb ram, 1tb of storage (for editing can always get external storage so i'm not too worried)

I'm open to anything! Please let me know :)

cs61a or datac88c?

hello! i’m a cognitive science freshie and i’m planning to do a double major in data science (or a minor if it’s too difficult)

right now, i’m signed up for datac88c but after reading many comments, many seem to say that cs61a is a better investment. from what i’ve researched, datac88c seems fine if i take a minor in data science.

If I choose to take a double major in data science, would you guys recommend me to take cs61a or will it make a rather minuscule difference? i also want to keep my gpa in mind starting out especially since i’m not sure how difficult berkeley courses will be for me.

I’ve only taken AP csa, i enjoyed it and learned the logic very easily (good at mcq), however when it came to FRQs and writing code by hand it was extremely difficult for me.

Which class would you recommend for me to take?

taking datac8 and datac88c simultaneously?

Hello everyone, I am an incoming freshman at berk intending to major in cognitive science.

this semester i’m taking both datac8 and datac88c and i was wondering if they are manageable to take concurrently? i am rlly scared of cs61a so i thought datac88c would be better for me. is it a weeder class? I’ve basic python/java experience. I took AP csa in hs however it was quite difficult for me (my teacher didn’t rlly take teaching seriously). Assume I have little to none coding experience, will i be okay? I want to start my berk career with a strong GPA as well…. any advice is greatly appreciated.

if you have been in this situation, please let me know any study resources or tips u found rlly helpful to succeed balancing the two.

Unit 3 Suite?

Hello everyone, I recently got assigned a unit 3 suite double and was looking for more information. Berkeley gatekeeps all information about it, the most info I’ve gotten is from Reddit itself. I’m not sure what the floor plan even is like? Is it all carpeted? What buildings are they typically in and how many suites does unit 3 even have?

From what I’ve heard, the suites are mostly on the ground floor and 1st floor? Is that generally safe, does it offer a different vibe than living up higher?

Does anyone know what is actually included in the kitchen and lounge?

Is living in the suite a different vibe than all the other horror stories of Unit 3 or is it rather the same?

If anyone has lived in the Unit 3 suites before or have been inside them please let me know as much info as you can! Thank you so much.
