Moving out of a house with suspected/confirmed bed bugs — how do I move my belongings safely?
I’m planning to move out of my current shared house at the end of the month because the landlord is refusing to properly treat the bed bug problem.
Some rooms in the house appear to be infested, and other people in the house have also been getting bites. The landlord has either refused treatment or said they have ordered products and will spray later.
My timeline:
I found 2 bed bugs in my room in April.
I thoroughly sprayed my room and then had no bites for several months.
Around August, I started getting multiple bites again.
I recently found another bed bug on my mattress, so I sprayed the room again and used powder/diatomaceous earth around the bed.
I have now decided to move out because the situation is affecting me and the landlord isn’t arranging professional treatment.
The biggest problem is my belongings. I have large suitcases that I cannot throw away, filled with clothes and other things. I also have a clothes cupboard right next to my bed, so I’m worried things in there could be contaminated.
I’m moving to another property and obviously do NOT want to bring bed bugs with me.
I don’t have the option of throwing away all my belongings, and I have a lot of stuff to deal with before moving.
