Gifting 2014 i3 BEV to son, figuring out transport and compressor maintenance options

Hi All. I've been doing some reading here, but thought I would post and see what folks think.

We're gifting our 2014 i3 BEV to our son and daughter in law, and my understanding is that the DIL will be using it mostly to drive around town, much as we've been doing with it. We bought it used in 2016 with 19k miles on it and have only put about 20k miles on it during the 9.5 years we've had it, so it's just now sneaking up on 40k total.

The HVAC system is working great, no strange noises, etc. I always drive it in Eco Pro mode, and my wife either uses that or Eco Pro +, so the compressor is rarely going full blast. But the last thing I want to do is give it to them and then worry about them having an issue with it that could be really expensive to fix, so I'm considering having the system evacuated and recharged with refrigerant and lubricant, even though it's working fine (something I've always avoided with my other non-EV vehicles). What is the general consensus on this, please?

I'm also trying to sort out the best way to get it to them, about 180 miles of driving, and unfortunately there is one gap between chargers that is too far to risk, so I'm planning to trailer it because my understanding is that if I use a dolly I'd have to tow it backwards, which is an idea that for some reason I can't get comfortable with. But trailers are heavy and my truck is old, LOL, so we'll see how that all comes out. If I'm missing anything important, please advise. Thanks.

Baby pergola for a struggling azalea

I built this cedar "baby pergola" to provide some shade for an azalea on the south side of our house.

It's a long story, but we moved to MO from SC and we missed having azaleas (and if you look closely, you can see a crape myrtle in the background of the pic) so we bought several small bushes 17 years ago and planted most of them on the north side of the house, where they've done well. But we had a couple of extras, so even though we knew they wouldn't like having full sun, we planted them next to this rock on the south side of the house.

One of them only lived a handful of years, but this one has somehow hung in there, and it even bloomed this spring, so I decided to give it more of a fighting chance, and this is the design I came up with.

Yeah, it's a long way to go, but hey, I'm retired and have the time, LOL!

A baby pergola for a struggling azalea

This is a 36" x 30" cedar awning that I built to provide shade for a small azalea bush.

I milled down 2x4s for the frame and braces, and fence pickets for the slats. I used my CNC router to mill the slots for the slats (my machine is only 24x24 so I had to tile it). I sealed it with Ready Seal natural cedar.

I'm not sure I nailed the configuration exactly, but it is allowing small slivers of sunlight, which was the goal, so I got close. This little guy has (barely) survived 17 years in full sun on the south side of our house, so I'm hopeful that he will thrive now!

Adding images via desktop app = renewed subscription

I've been trying to decide whether to continue my Connect subscription for my RM2. I'm retired and mainly use the tablet for woodworking sketches and such, along with barbershop quartet sheet music and some occasional personal notes, so the value proposition isn't quite as significant for me as it once was.

However, 3.27 of the software added the ability to insert images into notebooks via the desktop app, which is a nice feature for me, e.g., I can insert a CAD layout image next to my sketches and notes, rather than printing to PDF and copying it over to the tablet as a separate document.

And while I could probably do that without the subscription, that feature (plus the couple of others that I use that would be affected if I cancel) has nudged me to the side of keeping the subscription for one more year, and we'll revisit it again next May.

Connect Subscription - the trade-offs

TL;DR: I've tried to assemble list of the features available with and without the Connect subscription to help me decide whether to renew at the higher rate.

Hi All. I bought a RM2 three years ago, and paid $29 US per year for the Connect subscription for years 2 and 3, which is coming to an end in a couple of weeks. The new rate, $40, isn't really *that* much more than $29 ... less than $1 / mo, as some folks here have pointed out ... but if I'm not using (or can easily live without) the features that come with the Connect subscription, then is there really any value to paying it? So I've tried to lay out the primary features involved below, both without and with the subscription ... please advise of important errors and omissions.

I'm still on the fence. As a general rule, I don't like subscriptions, and I'll be able to function just fine without the subscription, just perhaps not as quickly for some things, so I may drop it and see how badly I miss it, and then just resubscribe if I change my mind.

Features that do not require the subscription:

- Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive integration ... I'll use this a lot more if I lose my direct sync with the desktop app

- Handwriting conversion

- Viewing and marking up PDFs ... I've used this feature a lot

- Screen Share, Send by Email, and Tags (features that I've never used, but they're there)

- Cloud sync for any files that have been used and synced in the past 50 days

Features that require the subscription:

- Handwriting search (this feature didn't exist when I bought my RM2, which is the reason I didn't buy one sooner, but now that I'm retired it's not a feature I need anymore, LOL)

- Unlimited cloud storage (i.e., for files that haven't been updated or synced in the past 50 days)

- The web site lists the Desktop and Mobile apps as a Connect feature, but my understanding is that I can use the apps without the subscription, although I won't have the automatic sync between the two so I won't be able to add and remove files, move files around, etc. from the desktop app, I'll have to do all of that on the tablet.

- Convert to Notebook (I've used this a few times and it's handy, but marking up a PDF works pretty well for most purposes)

- Exclusive templates

- Remarkable Protection Plan ... since my tablet will be three years old in two weeks, that won't apply to me any longer

- Create a Link, Send to Slack, and Send to Miro ... not features I care about, but others here may
