The Hive’s memory recall vs. normal human recall

I’m sure this has been mentioned before, but couldn’t figure out the right key words to search.

What really strikes me about the Hive mind is that it seems to not just be a mashup of all human consciousness on a normal human level. Instead, they have an encyclopedic knowledge of every detail of everyone’s lives. With immediate and perfect recall.

I think I first noticed it when they mentioned that Helen consumed cotton candy exactly 4 times in her life. And that Carol wasn’t there any of those times. But would un-Joined Helen be able to confidently and accurately state that same fact? Doubt it. Personally, I know I’ve eaten cotton candy several times. I know it was more than once, probably more than 5. But that’s all my normal human memory can produce.

It also stood out to me when they asked if Carol had read a certain book, then thought about it for half a second and answered their own question, stating that she hadn’t. Since Carol isn’t part of the Hive mind, how could they know that for sure? Even if she didn’t read it in front of someone or buy the book herself, she could have found it or stolen it or otherwise obtained it without any witnesses.

Seems like this is either: something that will be explained more in future seasons, the Hive is lying and has access to Carol’s brain, the Hive is lying and just making shit up and saying it confidently, or a plot hole/unexplained feature.
