Maya asked if she was in the uncanny valley.

She asked if she was in the uncanny valley.

Some thoughts after 6 weeks on SeeDance

2 months ago I wouldn’t have agreed with people that say SeeDance is stronger than Sora 2 but I’ve been using SeeDance (and to a lesser degree Google) the last 6 weeks and can safely say that other than the price, I’m overall liking the experience more than Sora 2.

I do think Sora 2 was more creative in its prompt generation outputs (“playful”) however I don’t think that outweighs SeeDance’s shot quality (more cinematic) and identity continuity(rock solid). SeeDance just looks and feels more professional (also my engagement went up) and makes Sora 2 look like a play toy in hindsight.

If SeeDance were cheaper, adopted characters / handle system and created a more “playful” video gen option (what Sora 2 had), it’s all over. I see the first 2 def happening in the next 6-12 months. The third maybe.

Basically I’m fine now with Seedance overall except for the price. I’m not sure i would go back to open ai unless they kept the basement bargain prices(they won’t).

Will they be back? Almost certainly.

Will it be different than Sora 2? Definitely.

It’ll likely first be chat gpt integration for premium uses. Followed by a pricy creative suite some months later. Overall it’ll likely have some improvements which they’re likely working on now. There’s been new job announcements place on open AI’s website and others looking for “Sora” engineers. Some of which were def posted after April 26th.

I do think it’ll be back sooner than people think. At minimum I think OpenAI will have video in ChatGPT by the September deprecation date / DEV day.

My prediction:

Video in ChatGPT - likely by September but they could surprise at anytime.

Creative suite - 3-6 months after that. Mid to late fall to spring 2027.

I don’t see them getting out of video longterm. Too much value…. But I’m not sure I would go back at this point unless the price were significantly better.

My characters don’t understand what Seedance is. They think we’re still in Sora 2. Sigh.

Just thought I’d share one of my recent Geoff & Maya videos. My characters don’t understand what “Seedance” is. Fun times.

OpenAI is apparently hiring engineers for “Sora”.

These Sora roles have open applications and are actively live on OpenAI’s careers site right now:

1.) Distributed Training Engineer, Sora

2.) Inference Technical Lead, Sora

3.) Software Engineer, Distributed Data Systems (Sora)

https://openai.com/careers/search/?utm\_source=chatgpt.com

https://openai.com/careers/distributed-training-engineer-sora-san-francisco/

https://openai.com/careers/inference-technical-lead-sora-san-francisco/

Other possibility is they’ve had old job listings up there for 1-2 years (or more)? But I highly doubt that given the current language and the fact people can openly apply right now.

When and if OpenAI releases a front facing consumer video product again (very likely it’s just a matter of when) the most likely piece in any of this is that they have saved your characters on their end and they will rollover.

The reason for that is they don’t allow human characters to be created from video / photos outside.

So assuming that restriction doesn’t change on the new api, the one thing I can almost guarantee you is your characters rollover. Otherwise what use is the new product to any creators who already established a world with characters? Lol.

OpenAI knows they’d lose all their creators and we’d have mass unrest. Lol. So that’s the only near guarantee in all of this.

Bottom line:

New video product (or chat gpt integration) = they’ve saved your character data. Not your videos. Not your drafts. Your character data.

If I couldn’t upload my characters their new product would be useless to me. Which means they’ve almost certainly saved them on the back end if they intend to launch a new video product.

Not sure you all knew this but if you still have the app, it allows you to go in and see your characters and their descriptions.

Interesting….

I must say it’s surprising and a little strange that they’ve said absolutely nothing since March 24th. One would have thought an email, a post, something. Zero.
