Piggybacking off the Monet Twitter post

I asked my wife this simple question for philosophical sake, and I’m curious on the Reddit hive mind’s answer to it as well: If you came upon the most beautiful work of art you’ve ever seen in your entire life in a thrift shop one day and, regardless of price, to your mind, it is absolutely stunning and pulls emotions out of you you didn’t think art was capable of, so you bought it and proudly hung it in your house. You show family and friends, they all find similar appreciation for its beauty. Years and years go by and you still find yourself falling in love with it, and then through some way, you find that it is actually AI generated art. Does your mind change? If so, in which direction does it change and why? Does where it came from matter? If man created machine and machine created art from man, what is so bad?

I understand one sentence prompting to generate lazy “art” is bullshit, and that it is HIGHLY unlikely for AI to generate something capable of pulling that level of emotion out of you with simple prompting; I dislike that as much as the next guy, especially if the end goal was to profit rather than impress, but something someone spent a very long time working on, perfecting through detailed prompting, could potentially hold some kind of beauty capable of making man cry.

Idk 🤷🏻‍♂️, the thought popped in my head and I wanted to get y’alls opinion. My wife said she’d stop liking it as much. I think not much would change from my perspective; I’d still think it’s beautiful. Sorry if this was kinda incoherent lol.

I think I scored big, guys

Long story, sorry!

About a year ago, I decided to dive head first into the Apple ecosystem by buying an 11” 3rd Gen 128gb wifi only off eBay that had a VERY badly bent frame (top right corner was “peeled” away from the screen), but otherwise fully functional, for about $200. I removed the screen and fixed the bend with no issues and ended up using that till last week when I found a 4th gen for $380 in mint condition on FB Marketplace. I sold the 3rd Gen for $350 on eBay, so now I’m only in the hole $30 in all. Well, today, I found something insane, I think. Y’all can confirm if I’m either an idiot, got an OKAY deal, or got the steal of the decade…

To preface, I work at a repair shop that is part of one of the two major repair chains in the world (UBreakIFix and CPR Cellphone Repair), and we have access to a pretty sick Certified Pre Owned section of our parts distributor’s site where we can get some wicked good deals on used devices all the way from Grade D barely works, but \*technically\* works, up to Grade A and New/Sealed condition devices. I decided to check what the 4th Gen’s were selling for (it was $466 Grade A for wifi+cellular) to get an idea of how good a deal I got on mine from Marketplace. While I was looking, I figured screw it, let’s check the 5th Gen M4’s with that sexy tandem OLED and make myself cry at the price difference. Well uhhhhhhhh, they had a Grade A (So, mint condition, battery at or above 95% health) for a whopping $566. Since I’m not the owner, I’m not allowed to make that big of a purchase without permission. I messaged him with a screen shot of that price and basically asked if it was cool if I could trade my M2 into the store for that M4 and order it in on a whim. I got the green light and it’ll be here on Wednesday and I pay absolutely nothing for the trade up. I now have a brand new M4 256gb 11” Pro for, what’s the math here, free?

I wanted to share this story with the world for anyone who gives a damn. Figured I could make a couple people just a hair envious of my luck. The only downside is that the Pencil 2 and Magic Keyboard aren’t compatible, and I just bought the MK on eBay for $60 in Field Tested/Battle Scarred condition, but fully functional nonetheless. Now, to find another used as shit MK for the M4… Never used my Apple Pencil 2, so I’m just gonna skimp out on the Pro unless someone here thinks it actually is a good investment to just have handy. I used my Pencil 2 pretty much only when I didn’t want to touch my screen and get it dirty.

I want to post pics of the M1 before and after the fix, my M2, and a screenshot of the price for the M4, but the photo limit is 1😀. I’ll just have the pic I took of the price for the M2 and M4 on my distro site hehe. If anyone can teach me how to provide y’all who are interested in seeing all the pics, I will gladly show those of you who care lol. I am not Reddit savvy. Peace and Love everyone!!❤️🤘🏻
