No, the iPad Pro doesnt need to be more like a MacBook

This isnt meant to be a hate post, but it’s tiring to see how many people keep trying to push for the iPad to be more like a MacBook, or have a MacOS running on it. I think the old iPadOS was genuinely great, but the newer updates, especially the new windowing system just worsens the entire experience.

  1. The Multiple Windows made it so hard for touch multitasking:

It takes multiple swipes and gestures to set up old split screen, change apps, and get slide over back.

The window tiling system is nice, here is no easy way to quickly change split screen like before. Before you could do a drag-drop to change which app was on the side very fluidly. Same with how fast and easy the slide over was, where you could swip on the bottom and rotate between quick apps you needed. With iPadOS26 it was super finicky, to drag and move windows when trying to set up multitasking flow. There is so much added layered of friction, especially when needing to quickly change which apps are open, and how the workflow looks.

  1. A lot of people who benefit from the iPad tend to be students, creatives, and people who do some form of reading and writing.
The way I look at, if you need an iPad you should ask yourself:
    - Do I tend to read books, articles, and pdf? And do I tend to hand write notes or mark up/annotate documents?
    - Do I tend to draw and sketch?
    - Do I have a notebook or journal where I take notes for lectures, meetings, or daily journaling?
    - Do I take handwritten notes about my ideas, project planning, or timelines

If yes, then you should get an iPad.
If not, just get a MacBook. The only other edge case is, if you like having a portable media consumption device that you can hold with your hand but want it to be bigger than an iPhone.

Other than that, there is really no other case for getting one, and trying to make it a MacBook just ruins the intuitive interface that people who use touch and handwriting devices like/need, and its tiring to see people who dont know why they got an iPad or didnt really get a benefit from it in the first place, try to change it into something else entirely.

Snagged a used iPad Pro 13 inch M4 with 1TB along with Magic Keyboard for 875 on ebay!

Upgrading from my M2 setup on the left, which I am selling currently. Running out of storage on the 128GB and felt I needed the extra RAM and performance for video editing. Hoped that the used market did not adjust to the recent price hikes yet and I was right!

ESR Shift case elevated vertical viewing angle function has been completely removed

I happen to purchase the shift case from Amazon prime day sale and to my surprise, got to know that they got rid of the elevated angles. It’s not worth the price anymore and still is extremely heavily. They kept the old images of the case on the Amazon website and I fell for it. Heads up and avoid this case at all cost. :(

Unknown sensor part scratched, is it okay?

Just got this iPad pro M5 for two weeks, and i use it heavily since that. I just notice the glass of that circle i mark with red has been scratched, while the camera and Lidar are still pristine. Already cleaned it and wiped it with microfiber cloth and the scratches are still there. What is that sensor in the circle? And is it okay if it was scratched?

M4 iPad Pro

Should I get the M4 iPad Pro from target for $799 or is it just worth it to pay more for the M5. Kinda missed out on all the 11 inch deals but found this one at target. Will the extra 4 g of ram really be felt?

Need advice for Ipad Pro setup

Hi everybody, I just upgraded to an iPad pro m5 11" and I'm looking for a new case and accesories to complete my setup. Here is my common usage:

- Note-taking & reading
- Document typing
- Video and photo editing
- work/study in cafes and on the go
- Movies/YT watching
- sometimes I also use my iPad on the bed.

I used to purchase ESR Magnetic Rebound 360 for my former iPad. It was a great keyboard for almost 2 years, but it's bulky and the leather surface did not hold up well. I'm now considering 1 of these options:

That's my research for now, every advice is welcome. I hope this post would be an useful reference for future iPP user. Thanks for reading!

macPad Pro?

All the rumors keep pointing at the next MacBook Pro/Ultra getting a touchscreen. But what if Apple's move is finally bringing macOS on the iPad Pro form factor?

Apple already solved the "reach" problem, that's what the Magic Keyboard's floating hinge is for. The (smaller) screens are already there: Tandem OLED, ProMotion, touch, Pencil-ready, an aluminium keyboard deck.
Just add a vapor chamber for sustained performance, move the batteries into the keyboard base for extra capacity, and you've got a real Pro Mac in an iPad body.

No weird notebook-with-a-touchscreen compromise needed.
There will be compromises, which?

With John Ternus taking over as CEO this September, and having introduced new products this feels less crazy than it used to.

First post here, be gentle 🙂, yah nee, what is missing?

11” vs 13” iPad Pro if you already own a 13” MacBook Air – looking for real-world experiences

I’m driving myself mad trying to decide between the 11” and 13” iPad Pro.
I already own a 13” MacBook Air M5, and that will always be my work machine. It has software I need for work that I can’t use on an iPad, so the MacBook isn’t going anywhere.
The iPad would become my main personal device.
My typical uses would be:
Browsing
YouTube/Netflix/sport
Reddit/social media
Journaling
Apple Pencil (notes and maybe some drawing)
Kindle app
Planning trips
Researching purchases
The odd game
I also have a camper van, so I’d use it in bed, outside under the awning, or as a Sidecar display during the workday. Outside of work, though, I’d want to put the MacBook away and just use the iPad.
My biggest concern with the 13” is that it’s in a bit of a middle ground. Is it so big that, for quick browsing or relaxing on the sofa/in bed, you end up just picking up your phone instead? Or if you need to do something more involved, do you end up reaching for the MacBook because it’s the better laptop?
In other words, does the 13” overlap too much with a 13” MacBook, whereas the 11” feels like a genuinely different device that you naturally reach for?
I’m currently leaning towards the 11” because I want it to complement the MacBook rather than compete with it, and I’d probably pair it with something like a Zugu 360 case and maybe add a detachable keyboard later if I felt I needed one.
One final question: because I’d be saving money by going with the 11”, would you put some of that saving towards nano-texture glass, or is the standard display still the better buy?
I’d especially love to hear from people who own a 13” MacBook and an 11” or 13” iPad Pro and how that combination has worked out over time.

Keep or return/sell?

Hi! I have bought an ipad air m4 this payday sale at 40,490 and I have been planning to buy because I have an apple pen gen 2 which I thought was compatible with the ipad air m4.

Could you suggest me what to do based on the options below? You could suggest other option if you like.

iPad Screen Protector Recommendation

Hey y’all

I was wondering if you could help me locate a suitable screen protector for my iPad Pro 13”. I purchased the ESR Amorite 7x, but screen reflections are distracting, the surface feels excessively slippery, and my folio case shifts around instead of attaching securely through magnetism.

I’m seeking a low-profile screen protector or film—glossy or matte works for me. I primarily use my iPad for taking careful notes during my courses, with little other use. Although magnetic screen protectors are available, I tried an ESR Matte magnetic version on my earlier iPad and found it unsatisfactory.

EDIT: I’m not interested in spending too much money I personally don’t find the value in sending $50-60 for a screen protector

Is this battery health normal? 93% with 84 cycles (refurbished m4 11”)

Hi, I just bought the iPad and I don’t know if it’s normal. I find it a little bit excessive for only 84 cycles. Could it be because it was first used on may 2024?

My makeshift Express Remote broke!!!

Well this happened—from only about 3ft up too, SIGH.

It still works but it no longer snaps together. I’ve always wondered if I could carefully pry it open and MOD it by painting the parts/pieces a different color but when I tried it never felt like it was able to carefully come apart….. now I know, it’s not.

II wonder if this is a sign for me to get the Tourbox Elite Pro? 🤔 LOL

Is a refurbished iPad Pro a good longterm option?

A few months ago I bought an XP-Pen Artist 16 and I've been absolutely loving learning digital art! But I'm on the move a lot for work and social things, so I wish I could bring something around with me.

A few years back I used my dad's old iPad for drawing on and got on really well with Procreate, but the battery sucked and it would overheat. I'm tempted to give an iPad another go, but obviously a better, newer version. I'm just so overwhelmed by what's available! My budget won't cover something brand new, so I'm looking at a refurbished and/or older generation iPad pro. In terms of longevity, is there a real difference between the different generations? Has anyone used a refurbished iPad pro and what did you think? Ideally it would last me a good few years, but I'm not sure if that's asking a lot for a refurbished tablet!
