The display makes it worth it over the Air

I just got a new M4 Air, and although it’s a beautiful device, I didn’t realize just how bothersome the display would be coming from an XDR MacBook Pro and especially an XDR OLED iPhone. I’ll be returning it for the Pro.

The colors pop, but as someone who uses Dark Mode all the time, the lack of true blacks is annoying. The worst part is the 60 Hz screen. It makes the experience (with UI animations) feel jittery/slow despite utilizing an M4 chip. My iPhone feels smoother with an A19 Pro chip.

It’s crazy how a lower refresh rate gives the illusion of lower performance. At least that’s been my experience over the past few days. I’m so used to 120 Hz.

I broke my screen somehow in mid-july (I believe it is some kind of pressure injury because I left it lying around during a world cup match watch party [BIG MISTAKE] and someone sat on it. there aren’t any noticeable cracks to make the screen like this and my screen protector was completely intact when i took it off to inspect it) and the bottom corner went totally black. I can interact with that part of the screen, but I just can’t see it. I’ve noticed that it’s slowly starting to get worse, and the black parts are spreading and taking up bigger portions of my screen.

I’m wondering if it would be any use to try to take this for repairs or if it’s too far gone and I should call it quits and get a new one… I’ve had it for about 5-6 years now and I haven’t had any problems until now but I’d just like to find a cost effective solution.

Trying to find the perfect case for my iPad Pro 2020 12.9"

I desperately need help finding a replacement for my old iPad case. I've had it since 2020 and it's absolutely perfect for drawing, but it's falling apart from daily use and I can't find anything similar. (my iPad model is Pro 2020 12.9")

The most important feature for me is the 9 different grooves with magnets on the front cover, which let me position the iPad at many different angles. I use it for drawing professionally, so being able to adjust the angle while maintaining stability is incredibly important.

It's also very rigid, which means I can rest my hand on the iPad while drawing without the case bending, collapsing, or wobbling. It has a pencil holder and a screen cover for when I don't use the iPad.

I've searched Amazon, AliExpress, eBay, etc., but everything I find nowadays is either a flimsy folio, not stable enough, has a stand with only 2–3 angles, or simply isn't made for my iPad model.

I even found my exact old case on eBay, but it's around $84 plus really expensive shipping, which is way out of my budget. I'm seriously contemplating saving up some money just to buy this case again (the quality is excellent, considering it survived 6 years of daily professional use), but I really don't want to spend this much money, since I originally bought it for €30...

I've already tried buying a 360º rotating model from AliExpress. I paid almost €20 and received an absolute piece of crap quality-wise. The iPad keeps falling, it's incredibly thin, and it doesn't even have magnets in the grooves.

I found this one, which looked pretty interesting to me, but unfortunately it’s not available for my iPad model.

Does anyone know of any good brands or places where I could find something similar? Thanks in advance!

Anyone else ditch the Magic Keyboard for a "modular" setup?

So I've been using the Magic Keyboard with my iPad Pro for years and honestly always liked it. Couple of weeks ago I took it off just to try something — threw the iPad in a slim folio case, and now it sits raised up in front of me with a regular Bluetooth Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse on the table.

I was fully expecting to go back after a few days. Nope. Having the screen higher is so much nicer for my neck, portrait mode with a keyboard turned out to be weirdly good for writing, and I've started picking it up and using it like an actual tablet again — something I basically never did when the keyboard was attached.

Only annoying part is the little wobble when I tap the screen, since it's just a folio and not clamped into anything.

Now I'm sitting here wondering if I should just sell the Magic Keyboard lol. Anyone been running a setup like this long-term? What are you using as a stand, and did you eventually come back?

iPad or used MacBook for starting a video editing business?

Hey everyone!
My girlfriend and I are starting to create content for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. We already have an iPhone 15 Pro and an iPhone 13 Pro for filming, and we have a budget of around R$3,000 (about US$500–600) for an Apple device to edit our content. We live in Brazil, btw.

We plan to use mainly CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, Canva and Adobe, plus some photo editing.
We’re currently considering a used iPad Air/Pro or an older MacBook, such as the 2017/2018 models. We know an M1 or newer MacBook would be preferable, but it’s usually above our budget.
For those who actually work professionally with video editing:
Would you choose an iPad or an older MacBook at this price?
Can an iPad realistically replace a Mac for this kind of work?
What are the main limitations of DaVinci/CapCut on iPad?
Is it better to buy an iPad now or save more money for an M1 MacBook?

Telegram Message

Hello! When I open my Telegram app on my iPad Pro, my messages don't appear on the right side, and I can only see my groups on the left. I can't seem to post or read messages within my groups. Is anyone else experiencing this, or do you have any tips or workarounds? My iPhone 17 Pro works perfectly. Thanks!

My iPad Pro M5 I Got Today Seems To Be Draining Oddly Fast.

Background App Refresh is turned off for all apps and in general. I’ve used Gemini a few times, downloaded some apps and played Roblox a bit. However, the main purpose is for college. But even still, after exiting Roblox, this still seems like it’s draining somewhat on the faster side in my eyes. The iPad is connected to a Magic Keyboard so I don’t know if that has anything to do with it as well. I do close some apps after I’m done using them, only to reopen them a few minutes later. Some apps i leave running in the background so I don’t know if that is causing it either.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.. I’m new to this iPad thing.

Ipad Pro 12.9 inch (2017 model) refurbished/bought in 2022, how to protect from battery drain

Hello,

My ipad already has pretty bad battery drain (11% lost with 14 minutes of it being turned on), I have not used it a ton in the past 5 years but for most of the time its either been off, charging, or using it for drawing/some games. I'm worried the times I've left it charging for days or weeks drained the battery faster, I know the newer ipads protect against this but I've found no information on what's best for older ipads. Now I've been leaving it turned off or not on the charger when not in use, what's the best for the battery health? I'm broke and can't buy a new ipad anytime soon and really need this one for drawing.

the best 5 iPad pro apps for people who love crafts & making things

I am definitely guilty of mindlessly scrolling for far too long, so recently I have been trying to use my iPad pro more intentionally. Here are some of the apps I have been using to stay creative and crafty and make the most out of my ipad:

- Ribblr: you can find crochet and knitting patterns and follow them interactively on your iPad. A great way to find new things to make!

- Airbrush: A photo editing app, perfect if you're into photography. It's also useful for crafty people, I use it to clean up photos of finished projects, remove random objects/background clutter and make things look a little nicer before sharing them.

- PlantNet: it's not technically a craft app, but great if you’re into pressed flowers, botanical art, gardening or collecting plants. You can take a photo and find out what you’re looking at

- Coolors: This is for when you're creating and exploring colour palettes before you start your next project

- Pigment: love love this one. it's a digital colouring book with loads of different pages and realistic pencils, markers and brushes. it's perfect when you just want something easy to relax with

- Libby: a little different, this is for borrowing ebooks and magazines from your local library. you can find some crafty books on there and also just for general reading!

I would love to know if anyone has more creative/crafty iPad apps to recommend! Especially for things like sewing, embroidery, jewellery making, painting or DIY. Let's share them to help each other out because I know I'm not the only one who wants to avoid doomscrolling!

iMac Late 2009 27" and iPad Pro M2 12.3" - Target Display Mode Success!

Took me a bit to get this working but finally got it!

I'm using a Mini DP to USB-C cable, OCLP upgraded to Monterey, and Bluetooth Off on the iMac. Next up, I need to figure out why sound isn't working from the iMac speakers. I'm also curious if a better USB-C hub for the iPad would be compatible. Unfortunately, the cheap one I have won't pass through correctly.

Does anyone else use a setup like this? Any tips or tricks in general?
