Goalkeeper protection
My 13-year-old son has been doing 3v3 and 5v5 futsal training for years (not as a GK), but only started league play this year. He has been playing goalkeeper for his football club for the last 3 years - so naturally, he is playing GK for his futsal team. His league plays exclusively on hard wood/basketball courts. Obviously, there are different techniques he needs to learn regarding how to get low/fall, compared to soft grass... and he's been improving, but his knees are still bruised and dark purple after each hard match. He already wears Storelli 3/4 padded compression pants (with thin knee pads) - but even these are not saving his knees.
I was wondering if anyone had advice for how he can survive these matches with less damage. Is it common to wear volleyball-style knee pads (we don't see a lot of them in the league)? Or should he focus on technique? Or should I just tell him to deal with it?
