how to care for dahlia’s going into winter

Hi all,

i was given a dahlia that is half gone, and i was wondering the best way to care for it going into melbourne winter… should i trim it back? would it be ok in a mini outdoor greenhouse, or better to keep in the garage or inside..? any suggestions would be great! google has mixed thoughts, and keeps suggesting cutting it back to tuber, which i don’t necessarily want to do.

thanks!

growing from seed in melbourne winter

Hi all, i’m new to gardening and wanting to try growing things from seed going into spring. i’ve been learning about seed trays, and my plan was to grow them in a little plastic portable greenhouse outside (photo attached), but the more i’ve looked into it, people are starting them inside, then bringing them outside for an hour then two in the shade then the sun etc. is all that necessary, or if i start them inside the greenhouse end of august and keep in there is that enough to suffice to get them acclimatised and growing (i’d like to do tomato, cucumber, zucchini and chilli). i’m in melbourne for reference. thank you!

Hi all, i’m super new to gardening, and i’m really trying to get some herbs thriving (any general suggestions are welcome). (I’m in melbourne, aus, in a particularly warm autumn right now).

My question is in regards to growing sage. I was given a big pot plant with a variety of herbs in there, and i’ve just separated them out and i’m ready to give the sage attention

1, it’s growing tall and sparsely, with not many leaves. is this normal, or should i be pruning it down or something along those lines? see the below pic.

2, the sage is being eaten by critters. I can’t have pellets/bait because i have very interested cats and dogs. i was told coffee grinds will keep away pests but google said they are too acidic for sage. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance.
