First-time divers in Koh Tao: Big Blue (SSI) or Black Turtle (PADI) or other?
My dad and I are finally planning to do our Open Water certification in Koh Tao, and we’re torn between Big Blue (SSI) and Black Turtle (PADI).
Getting scuba certified has been a bucket-list goal for both of us for years, so we really want to choose the dive school that offers the best overall experience, not just the certification, but great instructors, a safe learning environment, and an enjoyable few days in the water.
Initially, we were leaning toward Black Turtle because we assumed PADI was the better-recognized certification. But after doing some research, it seems SSI is equally accepted worldwide, so now we’re not sure if the certification agency should even be the deciding factor.
For those who’ve dived with either school:
- Which would you recommend, and why?
- How were the instructors, class sizes, and overall vibe?
- If you think another dive school in Koh Tao is even better, I’d love to hear your recommendation as well.
Thanks in advance!
